LOL. My E46 M3 is 1250kg, by comparison a 996 Turbo is lardy. But why compare a car from 15 years ago?

Cars have gotten bigger and heavier, even a regular 911 is now around 1500kg, a turbo is over 1600kg. A BMW M4 is around 1650kg, a GTR is around 1700kg. Cars have got heavier, the Mustang is no heavier than any other modern GT car in its class.
I take it that's a stripped out E46 M3 as weren't they 1500-1550kg?

Even the CSL wasn't that light iirc (1350kg ish)?

1250kg in what universe? A stock M3 E46 is kerb 1500kg up to almost 1600kg full option. Quite the same as that 996tt

On topic: it's a big quite heavy car (but not too bad compared to say a GTR), wonder how it handles UK roads...

Yes please. 533 hp. out of a naturally aspirated 5.2 is pretty special. Manual too. I bet one of these would be a load of fun. I would definitely like to see them bring a right hand drive version out. The Mustang is easily my favourite car on sale at the minute.

I'd buy one in a shot if they come to the UK and cost £65,000 or less because it simply has no competition!

BMW: Crap sounding turbo motors with suspension so stiff they lack traction, though finally the new M4 CS seems to solve the suspension issue, still sounds poo.
Merc: Where did the 6.3l go! frown
Audi: Dull and more dull, would have to be a used R8 V10 which are superb.

Ford really should bring this car, it has zero competition and they'd sell them all if they bring them. But rumours are its too loud to pass many EU/UK regulations and they simply can still sell everything they product to the American market.

Which is such a shame!

But in saying this, I cannot complain too much, I've got my Mustang GT to a point where it probably offers me 99% of what a regular GT 350 (none-R) would do, as its making 516HP and has same 8000rpm redline and much improved responsivness. KW Clubsports and a load of other suspension tweaks and unsprung mass I saved 8kg per corner by changing the wheels and brakes out, which is more than Ford saved with carbon wheels and the car weighs in at 1640kg.

Still after all this and how lovely mine drives on the road and track, I'd be driving down to Ford right now to place my order for a GT 350 or GT 350 R if they made them available in RHD. I'd probably take the regular 350 as I actually prefer the smaller splitter and smaller wing, plus I'd want the technology and infotainment systems as my Mustang is a daily.

Here is a picture of how mine sits now, they are great cars, just wish Ford would give the UK and other markets more options and more models like the USA gets!

Not done the strip thing or huge spoilers on mine, its aggressive but low key, still gets people taking photos and asking questions nearly on a daily basis though which considering there is thousands now in the UK is still pretty cool. smile
That looks awesome, seriously nice car. Congrats!

Makes a V8 Aston Vantage look very expensive and slow. I owned a V8 Aston for a couple of years and was quite disappointed with it. I test drove last year a boggo V8 Mustang and felt it was a much nicer drive. OK the panels are a bit poor but hey its a third the price.

Its far from standard, track prepared, stripped, caged blah. My point was comparing modified or 15 year old cars is stupid.

Compare like for like, which would be what Porsche, BMW, Audi are chucking out today which are all over 1500kg.

Yep and if it impressed you, drop 1-2k on sorting the weak point which is the stock suspension and they start to handle quite nicely actually. The panel gaps was an issue on mine, but I stood my ground with Ford and had their body shop adjust and sort them all under warranty, now they are all fine.

Rumour is they sorted it on later cars, but at the time mine cost me 35k with all options ticked so for the price it was unbeatable and back to basics, NA high revving, RWD, manual.

Thing is the 996 TT is slower than the GT350R around Laguna Seca which is only 5 tenths behind a £150,000.00 991 Turbo S & 6 tenths behind a 997 GT2 RS.

Would love a 350, absolutely amazing car and that engine, we won't be seeing it's like for much longer. Would stick with the vanilla 350 though as I'm never a fan of ripping out rear seats, too much compromise for not much gain.

Pretty sure I read you can spec them back in, along with all air-con etc.

Are carbon wheels about to become the new carbon wing mirrors and carbon splitter type of options list goodies?

You can indeed.

Though I'd probably just buy the regular 350 given the option as I prefer the regular 350 wheel style and lesser aero package that has cleaner lines. The R aero does not flow with the car so well, by this I mean looks wise.

The wing I have on my car (pictures posted higher up) is the 350 track pack spoiler which is what the 350 wears if you option it.

I really like the Mustang but just cant fall in love with how it looks on the road - I think partly because I dont think the standard wheels are the best choice for the car, something just doesnt look 'right' somehow.

This fixes things aesthetically for me - I think its looks great and not too ott - If Ford bring them to the UK we better snap them up while we can - There cant be much more than 10-15 years left for cars like this until they are pretty much gone forever.
Standard wheels can soon be changed..smile
Nice job on that - like the colour too

I'm glad Ford built the GT350R, for the Yanks. Though for actually driving on our roads I'd have a top Exige or Evora over a big shouty Mustang.

Im not sure what a 15 year old porsche has to do with anything and is a completely silly comparison to a brand new car - no?
People buying a performance car can choose the 'new' or 'used' market. I'm just pointing out that a 996 turbo can be had for substantially less and will offer more. You and others have the choice to agree or disagree (we all have an opinion)! smile
But its not really an opinion that is relevant at all to the subject and gets pretty boring to read comparisons of new cars to cars that are so old that if you were born on the year of release you would be turning old enough to be able to drive.

If you go down this route you could compare buying an older M3 to a new 116d, a second hand jacket to a new one from primark etc etc.

It is an unusual flat plane in that it is UDUD rather than UDDU, I remember reading this was something to do with making the exhaust design for improved scavenging easier, cannot find the page now unfortunately.

There is some good stuff being done by owners tastefully to their value for money cars, as per the pics on this thread. Nice work.

When it is a bargain to begin factoring in improvements and making it more personal makes a lot of sense.

I see a few around now and it is nice to see them, adds to the variety on the roads.

You say that like a 996T is some kind of deft sports car! It is in no way a track day car. I imagine this Mustang is much better to drive, and quicker than a 996T. It would also sound a lot, lot better than a boring 911 Turbo lump (had two Turbos, before anyone jumps on me).

It's also second hand, so is an unknown quantity. Not to mention more expensive to run in general.
