RE: Vauxhall brings back the GSI!

Meaning things can change. Tests of the lower models don't say this new Insignia is a total bowl of clammy old stodge - maybe this GSi will turn out to be a good thing?
Bottom of the range vs top of the range can change a lot. My wife loves her Adam S, but conversely hates the normal Adam she had as a courtesy car. E36GUY said:

That looks bloody good, especially the rear end. Nice colour in the pics, too.
Agreed. Great looking carLooking at it again, I don't think it has a bad angle and it's been a very long time since I've even bothered to glance at a Vauxhall!

Having driven the latest Focus and latest Astra back to back, I can confirm only those in possession of a guide dog would think the Ford's interior was better. The Astra is leagues ahead in fit, finish, quality and tech. Vauxhall are actually making some decent cars right now.
It's all subjective at the end of the day. I've not driven the new Astra but i don't have much desire to either. Any Ford i've driven, old or new, has been pretty decent though. I just can't say the same for Vauxhall.Edited by culpz on Friday 21st July 09:19
The Golf is much quieter, buttons and switch gear feel much more solid and a nicer place to be - although admittedly much more "boring" externally.

Out of interest, what did your wife dislike about the normal Adam and what kind of usage does she give her S?The Adam S is a great little car and has plenty of power so isn't a noisy rattle can on the mway.

I think it's pretty valid to compare a 17 reg Astra and a Golf mk7!
I personally would have the Astra but most I know would choose the Golf, as this guy chose. Both are pretty damn good cars. I would say the Focus and Peugeot 308 and others too are good.
Just a few years ago there were some awful cars in that class, but I can't think of one now that I'd actually describe as bad. There's no feature standing out as poor or exceptional on any family cars I can think of now, the hot versions aside.
I really like the new Astra's styling, so I'd choose that. The last generation Astra I didn't like so much, so I think I'd choose a mk6 Golf or mk3 Focus instead.

Why not wait until we've seen some reviews of the Insignia before saying all Vauxhalls are crap because an older, cheaper, unrelated car isn't as good as some newer, more expensive unrelated car. Is the Passat known to be a good drivers car?
Ironically, i think you're dazed and confused, just like that of your username. No-one has said that this new car is crap or is going to be crap. I definitely didn't say that, anyway. We can't say that anyway because none us us here have physically seen it in the flesh, inside and out or have driven it.All that's being said is that the current/previous generations of some of Vauxhall's products, subjectively, haven't been everyone's cup of tea. Why is that a problem to you? Why are you so furiously defending the brand? I honestly can't say this enough but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, whether that differs to yours or not.

Some of the comments on here are blind prejudice from people who have either watched too much Top Gear in the past or just have a hatred of the British working classes and their Corsas and Astras! Yes, come on be honest, the Brits are some of the most class snobby, brand snobby people in the world and Vauxhall has never tried to be anything else than an every day brand for every day people.
Hot Vauxhalls actually haven't been that bad in recent times. The first Astra VXR fared well enough in group tests of the day against the Focus ST...the second Astra VXR was actually preferred by Clarkson, I seem to recall, than the Focus ST or Megane RS (although he is in a minority on that one!). The Insignia VXR got good press, a sort of "poor mans Audi S4". Great value second hand too.
I don't see why this Insignia cant be compared favourably, with say, the latest Octavia VRS. Lets wait and see!
I wouldn't be surprised if it became the new police car of choice! Plod always loved their Senators and Omegas, both of which were excellent cars.

I had one of the Carlton GSi models mentioned in the article, and I certainly wouldn't say it was "good". Big bodykit and 24v engine that didn't get going until it woke up a bit and when it did it was actually wheelspin nippy. 7 secs to 60 or something. Interior was digital dash and huge armchairs. 'Interesting' would be a better adjective I think.

i really hope VX can come back to offering something different to the white premium German brands(WPGB). yes you want to show the world how well you are doing buy a WPGB, else buy a car that offers something different. yes VX will always be the bread and butter fleet car, but they have a strong heritage.
