I was lucky enough to test a new Vectra GSI for 24 hours and straight after a Mondeo ST24. I remember the Vectra was a right handful (fantastic engine) and the Mondeo handled like a dream. Mondeo badly needed the extra power that the ST200 gave it. Up until a year or so ago I regularly drove a Mk1 Mondeo and they are still a (comparatively speaking) great handling car. Anyone back in the day who went from the like of a FWD Escort to a Focus or a Mondeo will tell you how much better they were. Anyone who says a Mondeo is not a good drivers car must have only driven cars a lot better than the ones I have over the years!smile

Used to love getting this gen of Mondeo as Hire cars, really nice to drive.

Also loved my V6 Vectra SRi. Just a hooligan mobile that engouraged you to drive it harder all the time thanks the engine noise.

Quite want one now...

Yeah the part of my brain that played TOCA on the PS1 would love a Super Touring era Mondeo or Vectra (or Prelude, or 155 "Silverstone")...

I don't fancy the colour or the shape of the rear lights... but it'd be probably quite fun and it'd make the right sounds soon enough.

For those keyboard warriors there who haven't actually driven a V6 Mondeo (which, going by the comments is quite a few of you), here's some 3.0 sounds for you. the 2.5 isn't a million miles behind in terms of noise. No messing around with "symposers" or piping recordings through the speakers.

Thanks for that, s m. It's always interesting to read the comments and thoughts and context from the period that the cars were new

The Vectra ST200 was a notch up from the GSI - a shame they never did a test of the Ford vs Vauxhall namesakes

I once had a red MK4 cortina, which would have had no problem keeping up with a V6 mondeo.

Yeah, the ST200 was quite something in its day. Rare and expensive, I seem to remember. And white, although white cars were really unfashionable. I suppose that was the touring car link

I didn't know of that, I've just looked it up. Awesome! I'd already been looking at eBay and Gumtree to see what you can get a decent GSi or ST200 for, now I'm going to be hoping one of the two ST3000s comes up!

My stepdad bought a Cavalier from the garage that came up with the ST3000. It's really in the arse end of nowhere. I've been hankering for a V6 repmobile for the last week now though, eek.

I wonder...if you supplied a Vectra B and a Vectra C GSi 3.2 V6, could they still build one?

Or even the V6 from a Vectra V6 Turbo

Forget that, VXR8 or Insignia VXR powerplant will do.
Or 600hp C20LET and AWD.

No doubt

However, you can buy a Vectra C with one in already for a lot less so it would work out cheaper to do that and supercharge it perhaps.....

Even the standard one did over 155....as Mr Milton will confirm
