I know we've had this topic crop up many times on here, I think the last time was the guy who got run over and killed in his S3. The most recent, yesterday, is a mother and baby in an RS6 being targeted whilst at traffic lights in Solihull. Real heroes targeting a mother and baby, hopefully they'll plant the RS6 into a tree at speed.
I couldn't see another thread on this or a relevant one to add it to so started a new thread just to reignite people's awareness.

don't they auto-lock when you are in them?

Also, how long before manufacturers start to build-in GPS trackers that the scum can't pull out? it needs doing.

All of ours do auto lock once over 4mph (I think) and don't unlock till opened from inside (or a detected accident I think) but I had to activate anti-hijack via OBD2

More than that they need some kind of cut off switch that can be used after its stolen that shuts down the car and locks the thief inside, no idea how viable or realistic of a thing that is though.

Does anyone know how much of a problem this is in other European countries? Are they having the same problems in France, Germany, Netherlands etc? or is it just a UK scumbag thing? a quick google says that 74% of car theft in France is electronic hacking, with the Smart ForTwo at the top of the list for most stolen car... confused

I should have said, whilst it's horrific to happen to anyone, I hope it's not anyone on here or their partner that's involved. The RS6 is a bit of a PH car.

The sequence of events reads a bit oddly.

And of course you should be able drive whatever you want without being in fear, but a woman driving a baby around Birmingham in an RS6 obviously didn't carry out a proper risk assessment (or chose to ignore it).

I really don't think anyone should have to worry about driving around bloody Birmingham. It's not Kosovo.

Some areas of Birmingham would make Kosovo seem desirable.

Of course you shouldn't have to. But doing it in a car that attracts a lot of the wrong kind of attention is fool-hardy.

That particular area of Birmingham is one of the more desirable, affluent areas. It's certainly not somewhere where I would expect any trouble.

EDIT: Having seen exactly where it happened, one of my friends lives literally around the corner from that junction. His house is valued at £3.5m.

Solihull isn't in Birmingham anyway, but it's certainly not a deprived area or a warzone wherever it is.

Is it ? Perhaps they should consider something less conspicuous as the replacement also moving to a low-profile house in an everyday street too, just to be on the safe side ? fk that.
Sentencing needs to reflect the anger and fear that the hardworking are feeling, having to drive through these toilets that were once fine towns.

Okay, so let's think about this logically. You are a scumbag and have a requirement to steal/hijack a desirable car.

Do you hang about in A; the local council estate B; an area where people are more likely to have money and decent cars.

I'm not sure why you would struggle to connect the dots.

I think people choose the RS6 because it's not particularly attention grabbing. It's not massively different to a standard A6.

I suspect that you are being a little naive, the people who target such cars know exactly what they are looking for.

Yep it says "RS6" on the back and has wider wings, doesnt take an Audi dealer to spot the difference.

Yeah, anyone who wants to nick an RS6 will be able to tell the difference from a mile away. Noise, height, wheelarch flairs, grilles, badges and whatever other little differences there are.

It's fairly inconspicuous to innocent people who have no interest in cars but not to car enthusiasts and car thieves

I bet he has a heck of an alarm system.

The owners however, assume that they are buying a powerful yet anonymous car. Unlike us, they may not be so tuned into what cars are flavour of the month with thieving lowlife and assume that few people will realise it's a powerful car.
