Powerful Audis still being targeted by scum
Discussion
Car theft is pretty bad in Birmingham tbh, nearly got knocked over by a brand new focus rs that had no number plates on in Small Heath a few months back. I do know gangs like this will stash cars away in compounds or car parks to wait for trackers etc and then move them a week later if it's still where they left it. Our car park is a bit funny where I live for uni, nice cars, posh Audis/BMWs get blocked into the corner against a large brick wall with all number plates removed. Always gets me how they get in, as a special pass is needed to get through the automated gates. Not there atm, otherwise I'd say I'll keep my eyes peeled in the spots I know of

Blimey. Well the Hartley family have a bit of money in the bank. I'd be tempted to spend a bit of it to find out who was responsible. I can't imagine how he must have felt to get a phone call telling him what had happened. Sheepshanks said:
obviously didn't carry out a proper risk assessment (or chose to ignore it).
Could you help me do a `proper` risk assessment please? Obviously getting in & driving to my destination is no longer straightforward........Have to drive a Porsche Macan into Essex later tonight!!

The owners however, assume that they are buying a powerful yet anonymous car. Unlike us, they may not be so tuned into what cars are flavour of the month with thieving lowlife and assume that few people will realise it's a powerful car.
Now I know that you are being naive.RS model Audis have been popular with car thieves for a long time now for a multitude of reasons. Ignorance is not a defence.
Have to be very careful in any big city. It's unfortunate that fast 4 door audis and BMs are the main target (Focus RS and Golf R as well). They seem very useful for petty crime all the way to pretty serious stuff - these can be very bad sorts doing it, we're not just talking joy riders of the 80s and 90s but very violent nasty pieces of work.

The woman in this photo hasn't even noticed the guy taking her picture. A prime spot for taking a car as she's out of the vehicle and the keys are to hand.
Glad the woman and baby are okay as cars can be replaced.
It really doesn't take too many brain cells to identify an S or RS model from a standard one, my S4 is silver so quite anonymous but I still received a knock on my door from someone trying to distract me to see if they could get the keys.
So never keep the keys where they can be seen from the front door.

A friend recently found his insurance on his Fiesta St dropped if he had it registered as being parked on the street rather than the driveway. I'd imagine it's for the exact reason you identified in the situation you had.It really doesn't take too many brain cells to identify an S or RS model from a standard one, my S4 is silver so quite anonymous but I still received a knock on my door from someone trying to distract me to see if they could get the keys.

Not really sure what I'd do if I got car jacked, never really thought about it. But I will be having a very expensive alarm that cuts off and locks the doors when the driver gets car jacked, maybe have that glass film fitted that stops the glass smashing and just shatters it. That way they can't get out, wreck the interior as much as they want, gives me time to think what I wanna do with the bds
If it is the car dealer chap, I'm pretty sure he will be well aware of RS audi's being susceptible to this kind of thing. Why risk letting your wife and child ride round a know nightmare area in an RS6? It's not like he can't afford, or have access to, other very nice but less targeted vehicles.
I know you should be able to drive what you want etc etc but I bet he has a different view now. Anyway, who needs the power of an RS6 to run your kids about in, I get some harsh words for for any kind of acceleration in a Lexus RX with the child on board!
These toe rags do need vastly more harsh sentencing though, as mentioned before.

Bloody hell, another one gone in solihull.
I work for JLR in Solihull and its almost a weekly thing hearing of somebody there that has had their car (usually fast ford) stolen. Last week a lad I work with was sat outside Tesco Express and some toe rags dragged him and his friend out of his 7 week old Audi S3 and sped off.
week before that My team leader was having his front door caved in for his Jag XF S keys, luckily they were spooked by something and left empty handed

Area I live in as a whole is being targeted by car theft gangs. All the fast Audi range and fast Bmw range is disappearing almost daily.
Mercs, type r's, rs and the odd gtr have gone missing too.
Too easy for them to escape with them. Jump on the A42 and they can be on the M1 or over to the M6 in no time at all.
The Audi's Bmw and rs stuff is looking like key cloning theft. The Hondas and the gtr are home invasion for the keys.
