I prefer the X350 to be honest. The XJ from 2010 onwards is looking a bit long in the tooth.

^ Yes, and even that's a big slab sided tank of a thing. As big cars seem to be on the wane, the next XJ could (should?) be a Gran Coupe/CLS style four door coupe taking inspiration from the 1968-89 original with it's sleek shape and low roofline.

Looks like they've updated the XJs main weakness, the outdated infotainment system.

Dynamically it's often reported to be best in class, up there with the Porsche Panamera.

Not sure how long Jaguar can continue to use the supercharged 5.0l V8 for their top models mind, competition now getting more power out of smaller and more efficient engines.
Agree entirely. The v8 engine is on borrowed time though. Someone asked earlier in the thread why it's not in the XF and XE and the simple answer is cost. The v8 is a Ford engine built for Jaguar as a customer and as such they pay a whack for each one and it's pretty much the last tie to the Ford days. They are phasing it out and the Ingenium engines will replace it in supercharged form

The V8 you're talking about is the old 4.2 litre. Jaguar designed the 5 litre V8 to replace the old Ford V8. IIRC the 5 litre V8 first put in the XKR in 2010.

No I'm not. The AJV8 gen3 is the 5.0 engine. It debuted in 2009 but they are built by Ford to Jaguar specification and sold per unit and is the last remaining tie with Ford as the chassis design that is used was part of the IP of the sale but the engines were not

Fantastic power train in the XJR. But the trouble is, the X351 XJ is just not pretty enough - it never was. And neither are the XF and the XE. The whole current line up - the F type beeing the only exception - just lacks "sex appeal". I wonder if it's time for Ian Callum to retire: Did a outstanding job with the "Project Vantage" in 1998 and the X150 has also proven to be a timeless and sublime classic. But the XJ... sorry, just not good enough on the exterior. It has to go.

Why not release an "uber XJ" with massive power (hybrid V12) and super sleek looks? The market for Jaguar limousines is rather limited anyway. Make it exclusive and distinctively "JAGUAR". A true flaship for the brand.

The 5.0 engines in the Jaguars and Range Rovers from about 2010 onward are rebadged ford engines, they are not unique to JLR but used in several other brands as well.

Exactly jaguar buy them as a customer which is why they are moving away from them

Ok. What else are they used in? They are rebadged in the sense they are made by Ford but that's all - in fact I don't think you would see FoMoCo on any part of it.
Don't confuse it with the 3.0 TDV6.

Trouble is, all the new stuff from TATA is not as good.....

Yes, it is the beginning of the end. I'm in the US at the mo and on the news GM are ditching 6 saloons from their line up, as SUV's are similar prices and what peeps want.

As for this XJ it is a belter. I had one for two weeks recently, a 3.0D Portfolio and if we didn't have a dog I would buy one in a flash. Really had me hooked. I am slightly biased being a Jag fan, but driving a BMW or MB, although very modern, just doesn't 'have me at hello....'

I guess this is the last push before it goes, long live the XJ!
I think the new stuff made under Tata's ownership is excellent.

Ah! Didn't used to be the case with the S63. Is it on 'roll-out' ahead of new model?
Possibly. I know they used to make the current shape S63 in SWB form...but then, they never even sold the post facelift W221 S500 etc. in SWB in the UK either. The newest SWB S500s I can find are pre-facelift cars. Shame.

A hybrid petrol electric version would have been a smart idea. Otherwise, perfect.
