some of us have next to no interest in 4-pot hatches above a certain price level, or as a fun car.
And yet you choose you spend your time/energy coming onto a thread about a 4-pot hatch driving in a straight line just to announce this to the world?
I'm off to find a thread about lawnmowers, just to tell them how much I hate mowing the lawn.

There are some truly odd people on PH.

Not in the 80s, there weren't.

.
Er, there was.

Plenty of rallycross cars with BDT's were pumping out WELL over 600 bhp in the 80's, Most of which were Non WORKS efforts and privateer built. Not quite the same type of car but nonetheless, 2.0 4 bangers have been making silly power for 30 plus years, even in production car format ( Ford RS200 EVO )
Even to this day, we've built a nigh on bullet proof 4 cylinder on our living room floor. Runs 500bhp and all that's needed is a bigger turbo and the car is ready for ~900bhp, built in a regular suburban garage with only a halfords tool set.

I'd have said a forged golf r is well within it's comfort zone at 780bhp. Dsg has a big part to pay in that time I think, if the clutch pack has been uprated then the actual gearbox would cope. I'm not a fan of dsg cars but they do seem to take the abuse and power increases a lot better

So, you'll presumably have no problem with finding me loads of evidence of "novas, astras and escorts" that were "built in sheds in the 80s" that ran quarter miles this quickly?

The last lawnmower thread I saw was about robotic mowers, so full of people who hate mowing the lawn biggrin

Threads like this quickly identify the wally crowd on PH. I'm not particularly in love with the Golf R, but you'd have to be some kind of cynic/retard to be unimpressed with that performance
I don't follow you at all and don't understand the cynic/retard thing. Straight line performance has stopped impressing me a long time ago.
This isn't a rarity on the forum. There's a distinct us & them attitude on both sides. Those who dislike or have no interest in drag racing, rarely acknowledge the engineering and performance capabilities of cars. Much in the same way, the drag racing fraternity rarely has anything positive to say about circuit racing. Those who dabble in a bit of both, see and witness this regularly (speaking from my own experience).

Building a 3200+ horsepower Corvette like I am currently, often meets with 'meh' responses because of its lack of ability to corner like a Cayman S. I didn't build it for that though, I built it to go ~240mph in less than 6.0 seconds, but again, if it doesn't corner like a mid engine sports car, it's deemed 'flawed'.

Horses for courses and all that thumbup

Is there a thread on this car and/or it's build anywhere on the net? Sounds interesting.

I couldn't agree with you more. Hence my surprise at seeing the word "retard" just because different people like different things.

The engineering must be nothing short of fascinating but one should be allowed to find the outcome unimpressive exactly like someone else may find the idea of repeatedly driving around the same circuit unimpressive. Neither are retards, just different.

Someone makes a 5-seat hatchback run the quarter faster than the world's quickest hypercars, while being road-legal and looking largely stock on the outside, and we get this:
It's because it's a Golf. If it was a PH darling car, they'd all be beating themselves off under their desks over it.
Don't forget about the Tesla Model S crowd. Some of those fanbois are Golf fanbois too.

I started a build thread on another forum a while ago, I decided against it being on PH for the reasons mentioned above. Slight issues with photobucket being sods recently, so am porting photos over to Flickr when time allows as 95% of them are on broken links at present (a complete pain in the backside TBH, might just pay their silly subscription fee to get it working again rolleyes).

https://www.avforums.com/threads/something-funny.1...

ETA: $400, hell no to that one just to display some piccies. Cheeky sods.

I came to a thread about something that interests me.
You came to a thread that doesn't interest you, just to tell everyone that it doesn't interest you.

Which of us is the odd one?

How about a 3.58 second, 386mph, 1/4 mile...

...and I was there!

Another fair comparison? No petrol burned either, just hydrogen peroxide.

It'd be pretty hard to have a them & us attitude on just one side, to be fair.

I think its fairly obvious that too many people seem to think the Golf R is some magical new shiny development the like of which was never been seen before,, when in realty its just a newer technology version of the same tried and tested 4pot AWD family car that the Japs have been punting out for over years.

Its also absolutely true that writing a post comparing a superbike to a 4 seat car and then getting offended when people point out (the obvious) that a bike isn't a car, is enough to make the Pope think 'mincer'.

It's not hard to spot the irony when you complain about a person that's complaining.

I've written out a bunch of posts like yours C70R but can never bring myself to hit the submit button because I know it'd just make me a hypocrite.
