The interior is a big step back from the original, IMO.

I'm sorry but that looks bloody awful, a dated mess of materials and finishes.

The current XF is a good looking car but the interior needs to be more like this:

That is fking ghastly rofl
That's actually quite scary too

If I picked that BMW late one night from a car rental place in a strange city I'd have to go back to the office and ask for something else instead, because I honestly don't think I'd be able to grasp what half of that stuff is for let alone puzzle out how to make any of it work...

It's really not that bad, it's actually really quite straightforward interior to get on with, it is however a terrible picture.

I'll happily take your word for that, but still, if I opened the door and saw that dash I'd probably just quietly close it again and walk away.

I guess it's a generational thing. Puffed out old fatties like me prefer to keep the tech simple and discrete and at arms length but Yoofs - that's anybody under 40 in JS World - quite rightly embrace it and revel in what it does and are proud to show it off to everybody. Each to their own.

Out of the two - yup you've guessed. It'd be the XF cabin for me. smile

It is very "busy" looking, which I have less and less time for as I get older. Also who the hell decided that shiny black plastic was a thing that should grace a cars interior should be forced to spend a year in a cell decorated entirely with that, aluminium effect painted plastic, and fake carbon fibre.

A good infotainment system makes it easier to listen to music, use nav on the go, make calls and keep tabs on any issue with the car (faults or maintenance).

Most people seem to use Spotify or something like that now, so the infotainment system would need to be compatible with applications like that.

On my idrive I can scroll though the music saved on the usb/hard drive easily. Because it's not on my phone, I can use the iDrive controller/wheel buttons rather than the phone itself to select music.
Thanks for the explanation.

I really, really want to like Jag - I've had many previously - but they seem to do everything in their power to keep me away.
I realise this is a thread resurection... but shortly after this posting, I went ahead and 'upgraded' from the old XF to the XF-S.
Accordingly I can add a little about slightly longer term ownership.

Basically a big mistake. (I did have another thread running on some of the issues, but have gone 'quiet' whilst a solution was worked out - it will get updated in due course).

I really want to like this car, but nothing works properly or consistantly.

Different people have different ideas on the interior style (and for completeness, the pictures posted in this thread before were of the OLD XF v. a BMW - so you were not comparing like with like). The new one is obviously posted in the original article. I have the black seats - the two tone version is horrendous.

It *should* be a lovely car, but it has been in to the dealer many times and still not properly resolved. I have rather lost confidence in the car, the dealer and JLR.
Trouble is, I don't like the look and feel of Merc or BMW so not really sure where to go from here.
If anyone is interested - including the original reviewer - I could give more of an account of the last 6 months.
