RE: Fortunes of Lotus on the up!
Discussion
Has anyone actually said they are definitely doing an SUV? I don't recall reading that and I think a me too car would be a mistake.
Tesla has the straight line performance EV market to itself right now. That Renault Zoe racery thing proved EVs can be fun to drive. There's a gap in the market for a EV that handles like a Lotus and doesn't cost the earth. IMO they need to get on this right now before someone else does and they need to make it Federal compliant from the get go. They have the skills to do it.

it's a driver's car, i'm happy with the interior. in fact i wish i'd deleted the head unit and speakers to save more weight.i fear the next Elise will become flabby to appeal to a wider audience, a shame.

That driver's car nonsense has been spouted for decades and led to endless losses. Lotus need to grow up and build interiors for adults. They need to move away from the gokart segment and start attacking Porsche and Audi.
sure they need to do something to make it a commercial success. Selfishly i just hope they manage a way that doesn't blindly chase the Germans. Audi have deviated into appliances, zero interest there. Porsche have grown large and soft, with the exception of halo cars i can't buy. The Evora and suv can address those markets, i hope and pray the Elise stays light and focused. I'll buy another.Yipper said:

Evora 400; not gokart, real Porsche alternative.Interiors are fine.

I wonder if there has been experiments in a front engined bonded/extruded Ally chassis from Lotus?
Would that not be the entire Aston Martin range?saaby93 said:

Wasnt the turning point when someone (there's a thread somewhere) decided to drop the Evora V6 into the back of an Exige
Lotus decided to make the Exige a model in its own right with the V6 and a roadster variant
The Elise becomes a 1.6 4 roadster with a hardtop variant
and the Evora, they bring in a widebody variant and
wheres the Evora roadster?
How to create a range of models without doing very much

Have you sat in a recent model Evora? The only way you'll see lower production costs is if they magically start selling 40,000 cars a year. So long as you get a semi bespoke and properly tuned chassis, it costs what it costs.

Yes, announced last year (early this year?) as a joint venture with a Chinese manufacturer. They're to be made in Asia and (I think) sold there first, where the brand would suit the market well. If it's a success, it may be made available in Europe/America later from what I recall. The aim was not to produce a 'me too' car, but something that was very much a Lotus driving experience, using their production and design technologies.
I've always had a soft spot for Lotus but have never actually owned one.
They have lacked a naughty range topper since they failed to replace the Esprit.
The Evora has always looked a bit tame to me although I'm sure they are great to drive.
Anyway, I want Lotus to survive and thrive because they are an important marque. SUVs, submarines, whatever - bring it on.

If Lotus produced a lightweight SUV I would buy it.
It would be the family hack and probably a keeper.
If Rolex made a £90 quartz watch, you'd probably buy one of those, too,It would be the family hack and probably a keeper.
I do have a need for a small, light 4wd with decent ground clearance, i generally only buy interesting cars.
