Yes imagine the utter humiliation of driving a car that comes from a manufacturer that also makes tedious FWD tat for old people?

Oh yeah...

I've had my ISF for nearly a year and loved every minute of it. It's easily the best car I've ever owned and I will struggle to leave the Lexus brand now. I understand the appeal of M cars and AMGs but they are less reliable, more common and also have their own image problems!

and here is Tallows car outside my house about to be put on PH classified, cat not included though - he likes to lay on the scuttle panel where the heat of the V8 exits.

What a machine, I really wish I was in a position to buy it off him - stupid childcare costs!

I've got an IS250 and our cat likes to lay in the same spot.
I'd love a IS-F, very much high on my list of next cars. I find the IS250 to be a great car in many ways, but (in short) boring. A V8 would make all the difference.

I didn't even know these existed until a customer turned up at work in one a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was just a normal Lexus and it wasn't until he was leaving that I noticed the tailpipes and the exhaust note.

Our customer turned up in his again this morning so I had a closer look. They really are quite unassuming at first glance but a few subtle details give it away, the noise being the main one. I’d have one if I didn’t have a long commute.

Well, as an ISF owner I've had mine for 6 years now. Longest performance car ownership to date for me...having previously owned all manner of RS4, BMW M, VW, Evo, etc, etc.
Further info on my ultra reliable saloon available on my profile.

I've always liked the idea of the IS-F and would probably choose one over most of the opposition, however I'd have to have a decent test drive first.
Many years ago I ran an IS200 for a while and really didn't gel with the way it drove, I'm guessing the F is a completely different proposition but I'd still have to check.

That would be my only reservation, other than that I think they're a fabulous piece of kit and if I didn't commute 25k miles a year at my own expense I'd have one like a shot.

The IS200 in standard form probably shouldn't have been given the Lexus badge IMO.

I own an IS200... with a Lexus LS400 V8 VVTi engine hooked up to it's 6 speed manual gearbox - it's a great car

ISF was only made for 5 years in old shape.

Current performance models are the GSF (which Clarkson raves about on the Grand Tour) and the RCF. Both have more powerful versions of the 5L V8 (470bhp instead of 420bhp).

The GSF is more an M5 rival than a M3/C63/RS4/ISF/VXR8 stablemate.

Wonder when or even if these will ever drop to £10k-12k mark.

I have a feeling they won't frown

always get over zealous BMW idiots harping on about Lexus.

They make superb cars so just get over it guys, upmarket Toyota yes, my dog knows that also by now. Thankfully not everyone in the UK is brainwashed by German marques.

If everyone in England drove Japanese cars Garages would be very very quiet.

anyone know why they pulled the is f? seems odd especially with the compact exec 'super saloon' bracket being really popular.

I dare say they'll get round to it with the new IS. Have to say, Lexus are an odd brand, mixing fuddy-duddy image with freakily far out looks and eco-hybrid tech with slightly unhinged V8 F-models.

As an IS-F owner I can only reinforce what other owners have said.Have owned all sorts of stuff myself previously and after much research having decided IS-F was the route to go when they dipped under £20k the time was right.

Couple of things to add to previous comments.

Anyone who says the box is slow is either comparing it to something that is much newer and costs 5x as much or is driving it in auto. In manual and sport mode it has a 90ms change time, PDQ.

The IS-F lost out to rivals in all new car comparisons, by small percentages only but opinion seemed to be unanimous. This thread isn't about new cars, compare an 09 IS-F to an 09 rival now each with 70k on the clock and I think that would be a bit different as the IS-F holds together really well. Partially because Lexus / Yamaha built an engine capable of 500bhp+ as stock and then strangled it, so very unstressed.

Aftermarket mods are now available and a larger diameter MAF, hi flow intake and headers / exhaust will release this for not a huge amount of money (see http://www.rr-racing.com/Default.asp), Original complaints were that not as sharp handling as an M3 - lower control arm bush replacement will sort this.

Whilst generally bullet proof (there are many 200k+ IS-F's in the US and looking at the forums no known major issues - one mentioning his has hit the drag strip in excess of 400 runs and every time he gets in its red lined) water pumps as previously mentioned, occasional electronic issues with the smart entry system and push start and expect a starter motor some point after 8 yrs / 100k (motor only £200 but 13 hrs labour to change if Lexus doing it).

Otherwise brilliant sleeper and 2 cars in one, my morning commute is a comfortable cruise in lazy auto and the evening an adrenaline rush in sport manual.

What about tarted up Toyotas?! I'm no BMW fan boy, so if the original comments is aimed at me your barking up the wrong bush. I'm moving from m3 to qv as BMW have lost their way imo.

I'm not saying the Lexus is bad, indeed I've been complementary I'm just stating how its perceived by the majority and that they are tarted up Toyotas, which they are (i haven't said or implied that's a bad thing either) Some people seemingly get riled up by anything these days.
