RE: McLaren Special Operations 720S at Pebble Beach
Friday 18th August 2017
Never let it be said that McLaren doesn't bring anything attention grabbing to Pebble Beach. Five years ago the finely manicured lawns witnessed the debut of the mad X-1, followed at more recent gatherings by some rather nice MSO creations: the P1, 570S and 570GT.
McLaren Special Operations 720S at Pebble Beach
"A McLaren like no other", apparently - we're not going to disagree!
Now it's the turn of the 720S for some MSO Californication, with this 'Fux Fuchsia' car McLaren's main attraction this year. The colour is the creation of Michael Fux, entrepreneur and serial supercar buyer, who originally commissioned it on one of his Rolls-Royces. MSO has now reworked it for use on the latest Super Series car, but Fux retains exclusive rights to the colour's use on any other McLaren. What a shame.
Use of the colour is not just limited to where you might expect it; see the lip of the wheels, the steering wheel pinstripe and the rear-view mirror. Wherever you don't see fuchsia you're likely to see white, the entirety of the interior being finished in white leather and white Alcantara with white stitching. Best be really careful at the Starbucks drive-thru...
There's a serious point to be made here though, regardless of whether you like the 720S or not. It demonstrates that MSO really is willing to create whatever the customer wants, which perhaps hasn't always been the impression. Not so long ago it seemed an MSO McLaren was just one with lots of carbon on it, and now we're here. Indeed McLaren's Sales and Marketing Director Jolyon Nash talks of "virtually limitless possibilities" and "the most demanding customer requirements" in the press material, suggesting that the sky really is the limit as far as personalisation goes. 'Expect more like this' appears to be the message, so if you loved that X-1 then maybe now's the time to approach McLaren...

Good to see that he does like different colours and shades on his cars too - http://blog.dupontregistry.com/celebrity-cars/mich...
I'd like exclusive use of Allegro Brown please.
After all these funny colour of browns that have now become popular, the original Allegro brown still stands tall. It's an honest brown that means you never have to clean your car, a classic hue.
This is where British Leyland went wrong, if they had a spec ops team lets loose on the Princess or Ital they would not have gone downhill.
They could have even stuck an A+ sticker on an A series engine, that sort of thing.
