Sorry if this has already been posted - couldn't find anything and it's probably relevant to a few on here.

From 23 October 2017, cars, vans, minibuses, buses, coaches and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in central London will need to meet minimum exhaust emission standards, or pay a daily £10 Emissions Surcharge (also known as the Toxicity Charge, or T-Charge). This will be in addition to the Congestion Charge.
My Audi A8 2.8 V6 will soon cost £21 per day between 7am - 6pm to drive in the zone. My friends 1.4 TDCi Fiesta is not affected.

You can check your car here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/emissions-surchar...

They really are rolling out this stuff thick and fast - and in my opinion the little diesel should be charged the same as my relatively frugal petrol motor.

Thoughts?

I pay £500 a year RFL yet my car is unaffected by this new charge.

This only affects the relatively tiny Congestion zone rather than the LEZ or ULEZ though (for now) so wouldn't affect many people I wouldn't have thought?

Driving anywhere near that area or indeed into it is a nightmare during weekday work hours anyway! Best avoided, park up and public transport the rest of the way wherever feasible.

I have a 4.7l v8 and apparently

"You are not subject to the T-Charge. Your vehicle meets at least the Euro 4 / IV standard (Euro 3 if you are a motorised tricycle or quadricycle). You do not need to take any action."

That said, although I live in London, I try to avoid driving in it at all costs.

Right, I'm getting a V8.

You sir are the perfect example of an eco warrior laugh

Yet if you were selfish and drove Y reg prius, you would need to pay £10 per day for your reckless machine's environmental damage.

I guarantee it'll expand in due course. Give it a year?

It's a nightmare because of how many people drive within it - so it should by default affect a lot of people. I don't make the journey from hell that often, but when I do I will now be subjected to double the charge from October, while our friends here with V8s which comply with EU regs (I thought we were leaving that all behind) fly by at £10 per day.

A lot of people are moaning about this new charge.

When you ask them how often they drive into the congestion charge zone the reply is nearly always NEVER!

Secondly if you ask them if there car is affected they say "Yes, it's a diesel"

And when you tell them it's nothing to do with the fuel type they often reply they heard differently.

I then walk away to leave them worrying about something that will never happen.

Right, I'm getting a V8.
Just make sure it has a Euro 4 engine. The E39 M5 does not.

I cycle every day across zone 1. The number of private cars I see can be counted on one hand.

The biggest culprits are buses, outside rush hour they are pretty much empty and uber taxis ( although they don't pollute much they cause gridlock and don't pay any congestion charge)

After 23 October 2017, you have the following options:

Walk, cycle or use public transport - visit our Journey Planner tool
Upgrade your vehicle. In this case, you'll also need to check the forthcoming tighter ULEZ standards
Pay the daily charge
Join a car club - all car club vehicles meet the emission standard.

Right, we're all forming a car club then?

My 1971 Lotus is apparently exempt.

Clearly no toxicity problems with that, or maybe it's because it was built before we joined the EU. hehe

Yep. For example parking at the Westfield Centre in Stratford is £6.50 for the day and has good connections.

Seems my 6.3 litre V8 Dodge Challenger is exempt because it meets the Euro 4 standard. Who knew the Americans were using EU standards in 1969?

And my daily BMW doesn't exist according to the TFL website - or it's been registered abroad. Silly me thinking it was registered here.

Or, the TFL website is a sack of sh*te and many people will be told they don't have to pay the charge, only to be fined later.
