Be interested to know who has these figures. My hunch is that they are not accurate.
Interesting graph. 2018 is at the bottom of the chart - Thefts about a third of 2003 levels!
https://www.statista.com/statistics/303551/motor-v...

So, 290 cars per day, based on 106K thefts/year. Current Audi market share is about 8%, so that would give a typical figure of 23 cars per day.

Obviously loads of assumptions there, but just 15 Audis gone is probably a quiet night.

Using sales figures for a year of Audi's and assuming your maths is correct that means each day you see 480 Audi's bought and 23 robbed.

I appreciate this is far from perfect as they are not ideal measures but that's 5%?

If you assume 20 of the 23 are cars within a year of ownership and pretend the yearly figure of 175k new cars is a rolling static figure then it's 0.01% a night

Sounds about right. Another way of looking at it - 30 million cars on the road, 100K stolen every year. So each year, the odds on a car being nicked average out to 1 in 300.

...at risk of sounding like a broken record.....the issue here is around deterrent ?

If the punishment were sufficiently severe these bcensoredards wouldn't steal cars. They do it because they are not afraid of the consequences of being apprehended.

It is the same with jail. There should be no repeat offenders. Jail should be so horrendous that no-one sane would dare do anything that would result in them being sent back.

As a civilised society we delegate or right to "deal" with such individuals to the State. But that 'contract' is being stretched now to breaking point.

Something needs to change. And quickly..........

I'd say that if the chance of actually doing the sentence (rather than being let out early for spurious reasons because there's no capacity in the prison system) were higher, that would help too, but agree that an active and effective police force is paramount in the deterrent stakes.

As I've said elsewhere, I hope the development of drones could help to (more safely and effectively) pursue and apprehend car thieves.

Are S8s on the thieves shopping list too or do they prefer the smaller cars?
You should be fine with S8. There's not a lot registered (around 480 of D4), you can hardly see them on the road. I haven't had any problem with mine and haven't heard of anyone from S8 "PH leasing brigade" reporting theft attempt.

I would never get any RS, too risky.

I know the famous Audi S3 are a risk, but this much of a risk? or could it be someone who knows me?

I've had it on my drive for 2weeks, put it in Eco-mode from a distance of 1 mile from my home, so nobody hears it. Always parked it in reverse on the drive, so the four exhaust don't give it away, and its black pack so front roughly blends in really nicely.

But still after 2weeks of owning it, I've been woken up to someone trying to break my front door to get in, 3 men.

They first snapped the handle of the porch and then went on to break the front PVC door handle, with the intention to snap the lock. This was a 5am, CCTV was recording them, they pointed at them, house alarm was on and could be seen flashing. but still they tried to enter...Until I woke up turned lights on, ran down the stairs with whatever I could grab, shouting...

What would stop intruders, if Cameras and Alarm did not prevent them?

Also

I found the torch they used and dropped when they ran away and handed it over to the police, what are they chances it still has touch DNA after its been in the rain? It was sealed up in a sandwich bag as soon as I found it to prevent any loss of potential evidence.
That torch could have a written confession note tucked inside nice and dry, the guys address engraved in it, and when you switch it on cause a bat sign in the sky that brings car criminals from far and wide and our helpful public servants in blue would still give zero fks.
100% correct! My R5GTT was stolen years ago, when the police found it it was full of mail with an address on it for a house in Bristol. After the police charged me for recovery I found it all stuffed down the side of the rear seat, I took it to the police station thinking I had a major breakthrough, the policeman behind the desk looked at me and said "what do you want me to do with it!". He ended up taking it but I just knew that it was going straight in the bin.

This was also about 20 years ago so way before 'the age of austerity'. 0 F**ks were given back then as well!

In the towns yes, but not rural villages round here. They must have followed him home to have found it as its not exactly easy to find!

No lie, this car overtook me on Sunday. Was going pretty fast too. Reported details to police!

Sounds like this could be resolved with a Freedom of Information request to police forces with just a few car models specified as interest (RS3, Golf R etc).

After having 16 Audi's and the S3 being the ultimate Audi I wanted for years I finally had one in June, on Friday night it was stolen to say I am devastated is an understatement. I am faced with the decision of what to do next and as much as I loved the car I don't think I can put myself and my family though this again

Really sorry to hear that. Anything you can share on the method of theft?
