Why's hiding your keys the best ?

If they want your car they'll give you or your mrs a hiding until you play ball and hand the keys over .

The amount of people on here prepared to take the thieves on is amazing but 99% of us have zero experience of fighting , maybe , squaddies, police , prison officers and bouncers are the exception.
Utter tosh, i've had a fair few fights with Audi Salesman/Service Managers over the years smile

Best thing to do is have a good burglar alarm and hide your keys at night. Also, invest in a Ghost so if by chance they get your keys, they cannot start it with the key or via OBD port without a secret code.
In what way? I you do end up with the wrong people in your house, they'll be dragging you/your mrs out of bed wanting the keys & code at 1am, doenst sound like a good plan to me.

This 100% Not only that, these are people who do this thing regularly, they could have anything from a knife to a gun or bottle of acid.

The police advice to me was to take the car keys to bed. Presumably they know the stats and all but 1% of intruders won't look any further than that little pot or drawer in the hall where you normally keep them. The intimation in all advice was certainly that they don't like to be caught in the act.

Saw a police camera whatever program this week where a car ,an Astra ,got car jacked and the thieves got recorded by the

in car device fitted.

Whether it was big man talk or not but they both said in conversation that they would kill to get hold of a car at any moment.

Zero conscience or morals.

But then people are voluntarily coughing up for a service they've already paid for through their taxes and they are not receiving. It's creating private sector jobs and stimulating the economy.

Private sector security firms! What IS the world coming to...?

Just wait until you hear about education and health...
Where I live two houses across the road from me were broken into with thieves opening the doors using crowbars. They then tried to steal a ten year old Peugeot off the driveway of the second house, probably to take the stuff away in. It was an off duty police dog handler who lives nextdoor who stopped them.

They were allocated a police officer to deal with their case but couldn't get the insurance sorted as when they rang this officer, he didn't have a clue about their case.

Our neighbours have been talking for a while about clubbing together for a private security firm to patrol the area.

It's sad when you finally get the car you want and some scrote(s) are determined to take it away. mad

A couple of years ago someone in my road had a new Golf GTi.

The allocated spaces are weird - he had the 4th house from the end but the 3rd space from the end. confused

Anyway one or more scrote opened the door of the 3rd house from the end and found a VW key - but it was for the 1999 Golf V6 owned by the 2nd house from the end! It got left, but was a right PITA for the owner as he didn't have a spare key!

But it seriously attracts determined thieves and people who like violence.
I haven't read the whole thread but my view is this is as much about where you live as the vehicle itself.

Live somewhere decent, drive what you like.

'Decent' area tend to be populated by affluent people. Affluent people tend to have nice cars. Car thieves wish to steal nice cars. Car thieves thus travel to 'decent' areas.

Absolute cobblers thieves drive to nice areas to steal nice stuff you have to be pretty naive to think otherwise

Completely true. I would think that remote places are probably safer though.

Agree 100%, if a nice car was in a crappy area chances are its already dodgy and they'll leave it be

Hear me scream? Out here in the sticks I have a semi-automatic rifle and an 8 round wit loading 12 bore. Plus diggers, polythene and quick lime.

No trace by dawn.

It's you urbanites that get your cars stolen.

Funny. Streets and driveways round me are lined with decent metal yet people having their doors kicked in is utterly unheard of...

Sorry, but whilst it isn't strictly confined to Bradford it certainly isn't a nation wide phenomenon!

(Not talking the sticks either, just an affluent suburb of a large city in the south, we get the odd burglary yes - but this sort of crime is unheard of!)

On a recent trip to the USA speaking to the locals, they almost seemed shocked that we don't have guns in the UK, one asked me what do we do if someone get into your bedroom at night. I had to pause and think, all I could say was I don't know throw a pillow at them. In some ways they have the right idea when it come to defending themselves.
Why didn't you tell them our society is far more civilised than theirs (this isolated incident aside) so even thinking about planning for such an event is anathema to the vast majority of the population?

Oh, you could also have added that multiple studies have found that keeping a gun in your home increases your risk of death by shooting.

Its a fairly obvious assumption that car thieves are like fisherman and will travel to places where their 'catch' is more likely.

As a pure percentage, high end car theft in a less affluent area is still probably more likely than in an affluent one though, irrespective of travelling car thieves,

Which funnily enough is also reflected in folks insurance premiums... There are hotspots for certain types of crime. Never fretted about my shiny new S3 for a passing second when I had it.
