I read a thread a while back about these, which prompted me to get a phone number from Soho66 and Media5Fone to answer the calls. Which works fine.

Now someone else has a similar set up which I want to take over i.e. answer calls for him. I think I can set up the app with his details OK but is there an option or is it possible for two people to have access to the same number? Basically so that when a call comes through it rings on two phones?

SOho you can use the number on more than one phone. You can also have call rules to forward unanswered calls.

the Apps rely on a good date connection. Not always ideal

This is a ballache of ballaches. His provider isn't listed on my app, mine isn't listed on his. My app seems to only allow one line/account at a time (but unsure), my app is also being killed off next year. His app isn't the most reliable (neither is mine tbh). None of this is particularly easy, intuitive or robust.

Other than getting an call answering service in some virtual office type thing (which we definitely don't want) what is the 'proper' solution to this?

Does his app do call forwarding, or re-routing?

If so and it is possible to accept forward all calls to your number.

Then look at a SIP/VoIP service for business.

If my number is business A and his is business B and his calls forward to me would I know which business they originally dialled?

Don't use the app. It a voip phone that plugs into your router (can be wireless too)

You would need to see if in call settings you have the option of seeing if it is a forwarded call not a direct dial.

Sorry but apart from let everything drop to voice mail and call back, the only other option I can think of is auto attendant.

I've been using sipgatebasic for a while now, if you only want a number for incoming calls its free smile

I have it set up with the acrobits softphone app on my phone and its been working fine. It has a different call tone so I know what I'm answering. Not sure about multiple accounts redirected though sorry.

I've just remembered I have a dual SIM phone. Could I just set the business B line to forward from the VoIP number to my mobile on a 2nd SIM?

If he uses soho you can log 2 phones into the account. The phone is setup then with labels so you can see which is which. I assume most are like this.

The other option may be announce if the voip provider offers it.

You need to confirm that your dual SIM has two attaches not just one radio and you need to activate which SIM is no good for you.

So it is dual standby or dual active SIM
