2015 DB9 ... after 3 weeks at the dealership it was back recently. I drove some 170miles today. After parking in the driveway I noticed a strange black pipe almost touching the ground. I took a closer look and noticed whatever is down there seems to have lowered. Can somebody check their DB9 and post back please.

I've just checked mine for you, and there is DEFINITELY NO PIPE HANGING. I'll post a pic in a few mins.

Thanks ! Can you also check if the muffler has a cutout like shown in the picture (yellow marking). Appreciate your help.

Thats the link to a photo of mine.

And I checked the muffler - definitely NO cutout - it's one solid piece.

The pipe is the drain for any petrol spillage from refuelling in the recess under the flap. It has likely become detached from the drainage pipe at the top. Normally the pipe finishes a millemeter or two below the wheel arch liner. There are two clips round the pipe that secure the pipe to the inside of the liner. You could gently pull it out completely but if you meet resistance just cable tie it away (but not to anything that moves) for the time being.

The only solution is to drop the liner to be able to reach the stub protruding from the fuelling recess to be able to re-attach. Possible problems to arise from dropping the liner will be seized/corroded fixings that will need cutting off/replacing. Good luck.

Ps the tag that is welded to the silencer is probably a stock or part number tag. If there was a hole beneath there would be sooty marks around it.

In your photo OP, is that grass we can see near the upper part of the rubber tube.

They will deduct a point in Concours d'Elegance for that. - wink

I would use a garden hose to run water around the gas filler cap. If water runs out the pipe, then just cut it or tie wrap it up. If no water (or very little) water runs out the hose then I recommend removing whatever is necessary to reattach the hose.

lol ... DB9 is my precious :-) I was planning to get a Vanquish S or DB11. But due to several noise issues with my DB9 which AM Service couldn't isolate for more than an year and even after keeping my car for more than 3 weeks, I was thinking of doing a 'BREXIT' :-( . I reached out to AM HQ several times and AM NA Rep is coming to check my noise complaints next week. Keeping my fingers crossed ... wish me luck :-)

I would be quite concerned that if the dealer gave me back my car with something as obvious as that pipe being incorrectly refitted, what else has not been done properly?

What about the quality control? Cars are usually checked by a senior technician or foreman before returning to customer.

I would return it and expect the arch liner to be removed again and the hose clipped back correctly in position, and an explanation why it was not done so the first time around.

Dealer says they did notice that pipe before sending the car back to me and it is secure. It seems some vehicles have the pipe sticking out like that. I have my doubts because I didn't notice it for almost 3 years. They have any QC. They were trying to fix wind noise and other noises for more than 2 years now without any success. They replaced parcel shelf area and they are not secured and not aligned. Please see this picture.

Recently I found a wrench in the hood. Very frustrating experience.
AM NA's rep is flying to dealership next week to test drive the car with me.
