As Cuprabob has said below, all exhausts function. The outer two have valves which only open when the car is in Race mode. Two clean and two dirty is a sure sign the car is ran mainly in Eco or Normal mode.

The MK7 estate had fake exits, but the 7.5 estate has a fully connected system with two back boxes.
Fair enough. Cheers for the clarification.

Yuck. This'll end up being another chavy/blingy overpowered Golf. NO THANKS.

In order to surpass the current Golf R styling this will need at least 6 exhaust tips coming out of the back.
don't blame the golf, blame KIA - 1.25 and 84bhp - twin pipes.. how can VW indicate to the average non-petrol head that the R has nearly 3 times the power without at least doubling the exhaust tip count?!

The possibility of an R400 has been around for so long and has never come to fruition. I have lost interest now. The cost is likely to be excessive. The current R is pretty expensive once the necessary options are factored in. No longer value for money.
True, power output has not kept up with the competition, but I can't help thinking it is becoming a bit of an irrelevance.

Depends what you consider as the competition. It's not far behind the M140i and you could argue the RS3 and A45 are in a different price band. What else?

I'd take that Kia over the Golf R anytime. It looks a real keeper

If they can tame the understeer from the different weighting of the bigger engine, it will be an epic car, and probably at a fair price.
This will be the big question.

5 cyl warble great as long as it doesn't compromise handling..

It seems RS3 is already the car it should be.

Perhaps I should have rephrased that to "the car everyone wants it to be". There's no denying that it has dynamic shortcomings.

My brother has the even less powerful 1.0 version and it still has twin pipes, so unnecessary! hehe

Some rumours this will launch next year with an RS3 engine. Looks like it's a goer.

Should be an epic car, but unfortunately not only will it be the fastest Golf ever, but it will will presumably also
shoot straight to the top of the West Midlands/West Yorkshire 'cars stolen from driveways' league table too frown

But the R Performance Option, announced in April is still not available to actually order. It's on the website etc, but not available on Sli, the dealer's tool. I've been sat cash in hand waiting for months, but still not here. Perhaps they are diverting resource from this option to a 5 pot.
