Funnily enough, from a driving persepective, that's the complete opposite of what they are.
I dont agree, I had a red ZTT as a courtesy car for 3weeks when these were new and hated it and thought it was the worst ever till i bought an E39 and realised there is a further step into the depths of hell
Looking at your car history I'm genuinely at a loss to understand why you thought that? The only car there that is recognised as a remotely fun able chassised ( is that a word??) car is the Corrado VR6?.Did you not like that either?
What was it from an actual pushing on type driving perspective did you not like?

As it says in the article, pretty much unheard of in the V6 compared with the 1.8.

That's heresy.

I purchased one recently, on an 02 plate. I paid a lot for it (2k) but it was a one owner car with only 36k miles, genuinely immaculate. Garaged all its life, perfect. I've just had the wheels refurbished and the cam belt done, I love it. Sure it likes a drink, and its not very fast, but I just think they look great and its a genuinely decent enough steer. Actually quite fun for the size of it when you push on, especially through the bends!

The market doesn't appreciate these at all but I am certain that will only boost their future classic status as more and more go to the dogs and get scrapped, there will only be a few good ones left. Being one of the last British mainstream saloon cars, and with the MG badge on them, I think they are pretty cool.

I had one of the facelift diesels that was superchipped to about 160hp. Handled surprisingly well for a big car and felt pretty quick. I think the pre facelift cars were better built, the later ones suffered from cost cutting under the so called project drive. I'd have another if I ever needed a cheap 4 door runabout.

Many moons ago I had the V6 estate as a temporary company car. Nightfire red I think the colour was called? Boot was smaller than you might imagine. Performance was better than most realised. At the time I was working near Rotherham and the road from the motorway to the office was dual carriageway punctuated regularly by roundabouts. I used to have great fun watching BMWs (in particular), lining me up to overtake when exiting a roundabout and the look of befuddlement when this sedate looking barge picked up its skirts and left them marooned in the outside lane. Childish, I know, but I didn't break any speed limits (Unlike the Beemer warriors who would wind their trusted steeds up to silly mph to make sure they got past me...)

I hated the facelift when they were new, but they've really grown on me since. The ZR and ZS too.

The Rover equivalent facelifts still look crap though, in my opinion. The Rovers before the facelifts were nice I thought.

That is, I liked the 200 and 400 and the pre-facelift 25 and 45

If this wasn't so far away from me I would have bought it by now.

Anything to rid me of the awful Laguna that currently sits on my drive....

Two grand sounds like a bargain. Crazy how distorted our used car market is, thanks to PCP etc mad

I like these a lot, I've never driven one but always liked the look of them, especially the pre-facelift for some reason. I nearly bought a 190+ a while back 'cos it was cheap and local but my sensible head won and I didn't buy it. I regret it a bit now because, as said, good ones are probably going to be few and far between before long. There's a guy locally with a very tidy V8 one which always catches my eye (and ears!).

And also because it is not German, so therefore it must be no good...

Seriously though I drive a 2000W 75 V6 as an everyday car which has been in my family from new. It still rides better than most cars and has a much more plush interior than most cars this side of £40k new nowadays. Also other than wear and tear items and a few things like road springs recently, it has been very reliable - indeed the only real 'trouble' issues have been from the BMW derived bits, namely the locking wheel nut caps (badged BMW) that jumped off years ago, the tricky to align z-axle rear suspension and the creaking/needing regular adjustment BMW derived handbrake system. I will say however that the interior and body feel much more solid than any Honda derived Rover that preceded it. Indeed after having driven both the Rover and my parent's 2010 XF today, though the Jag is fine, it is certainly true that the Rover is the more solid feeling car.

I keep on being really tempted to buy a nice, clean, low mileage ZT 190 or V8 as a 'practical' classic car. Perhaps when my MGB turns 40 and becomes tax exempt I could justify it, though an RX8 R3 is equally tempting.

I pass the old Longbridge factory site all the time. Until quite recently it was just wasteland and piles of rubble

The facelift 75 is a travesty but I dont mind the facelift zt. The main drawback of the zt range for me is the 18s v 15/16s of the 75 and the zt seat bolsters always look horrendous!

190 version also had a different ratio gearbox which equals higher revs on the motorway.
