Sellers that won't tell you what they sold it for

I've happily told people what I've sold my car for, gives people an indication of the market. Once I did it to a low baller who called back after the car had sold and stuck it to him, felt pretty good. I wouldn't go round calling adverts marked as sold and trying to find the sold prices though...
I should add I also enjoy looking at people's house prices on Rightmove, I'm a believer in freedom of information
Perhaps I misjudged things. I really didn't think it would be a big deal. Wouldn't bother me giving that information away. I wasn't canvassing for information; I would have made an offer if he still had it. I should add I also enjoy looking at people's house prices on Rightmove, I'm a believer in freedom of information
Oh well, we are all different I guess.

Why do they care? Phoned up about a couple of cars - sorry their sold. Ah, okay, no bother mate, out of interest, how much did you sell it for. Can't tell you. Why on earth not - you've already sold it! Private sellers, I should add, so not dealers with a margin to protect.
Weirdos.
Private and Confidential data Weirdos.

I thought cars didn't sell privately?
They do at two grand. Integroo said:
Helps to get an idea of the market, so I know what cars are actually going for, rather than advertised for. A chap yesterday let me know he sold for 2900 when advertised at 4400. There's no disadvantage to the seller at all.
That is flawed logic. Just cause it sold for 2900 doesn't give you any leverage over the ones still to sell. I sold a Legacy GTB for £2200 that would have sold easy for £4k, but i had good reasons to sell at £2.2k.BuzzBravado said:

Ok to avoid confusion, i sold it to a good friend who only had 2.2 and i'd rather see him with it than make 1800 more, it wasnt that big a deal.
Anyway i suspect the reason you are getting the criticism is because we are all well aware of the types that then go on to try and use that low selling price to bring down others.
" but yeah bruv, they are only gong for 2900 init".

If that's the case, it is unlikely you put it up for sale publicly though, correct? Anyway i suspect the reason you are getting the criticism is because we are all well aware of the types that then go on to try and use that low selling price to bring down others.

Perhaps, but if it is listed at x and someone takes y, it is likely because it didn't sell at x.

You may have missed my other thread which showed the long saga of selling my Civic, but not a chirp at 9750 privately and chopped it in 9600 trade. Whole different discussion however and not for this thread.
I'm just pointing out that of course people buy and sell cars privately, all the time.Integroo said:
Delete your advert when it is sold then? I hadn't a clue it was sold.
This. Why don't people delete their ads when the car is sold. Its the first thing I do, took all of 5 mins to remove the ads from Gumtree and Autotrader and didn't exactly require a degree in quantum physics to do either.

I'm in the 'It's none of your business' camp. It's just plain rude to ask about anyone's financial dealings that don't involve you. You might as well ask me how much I earn 'cos you fancy the same sort of job.
I did once have a buyer-who-missed-his-chance ask the question, and HE became the more offended person when I told him it was none of his business. Idiot.
