Looking for some advise, been getting conflicting information online, basically on the 8th of April this year I was involved in a head on collision interviewed under caution I admitted fault and full responsibility. Was then asked by phone if I would be interested in a restorative approach by writing a letter of apology to which I did and the police dropped off an official letter with the instructions on it I thought this would be the end of the matter.

Fast forward to the beginning of this month I got a letter offering me a course instead of prosecution having been looking for advice online people now seem to think because the course needs to be completed by the 24/10/17 (Which I have double and tripled check) its outside the 6 month limit and therefore if I don't turn up etc I wouldn't need to appear at court.

Do you think this is right?

Also I was under the impression had I wrote the letter of apology that would be the end of the matter as the letter clearly states its a restorative approach this was posted to me on the 28th April and have heard nothing until this month with the offer of the course that was dated the 25th August 2017.

Thanks

Forget the 6 month thing for now, do you think you would probably benefit from the course? Also would that be the end of it?

To be honest, forgetting the cause or what happened before, I think most courses would be worthwhile, and should be regularly offered.

I have been trying to book the course however, the local council who offer it keep telling me they will get back to me and then they dont all I get is that they are extremely busy and working through a backlog of people its not that I dont want to do the course its trying to get booked onto it as rang up 6 times in the last 3 weeks and have not received a single phone call back

and was looking for advice on what would happen if I couldn't do the course and run out of time and that's when I started getting information regarding the 6 month time limit online.

Can you book online? I know you can in my neck of the woods takes about 5 mins.

Prosecution, I would suggest.

Tried booking online, when I went to pay for my course as my dad was going to lend me the money while he was trying to find his bank card the site kicked me off and now wont let me log back in so obviously going to ring the council tomorrow but expecting the same reply that they are busy and will deal with me when they can.

And regarding the 6 month rule the accident happened on the 8th April. I have to complete the course by the 24th October that would be over 6 months and no where in the letter does it say I have been charged it says they believe I may have committed an offense

Log your calls, and write to the address on the police letter you previously received, expressing your frustration and saying how many times you have tried to contact the council. It may also help if you state when your are available to take the course.

Might be worth a trip to your council office in person.
