My wife thinks these beheamoths are absolutely gorgeous. I'm not sure about the benefit of the E-stuff, brilliant for your tax code, but when you're out and about actually driving?

Anyway, would it look too much in Paint to Sample - Voodoo Blue? Most of these big cars will surely all be ordered in shades of grey or basalt black.

I can apply about 1000 lb-ft of torque to my wheels with a 6ft breaker bar. I can apply it at about 1rpm. No amount of gearing to this force will make my car accelerate off my drive at a high rate.

What I need is the highest product of the force and the rate. I wonder what we could call this concept?

(I'm ignoring weight and drag above)

That's certainly a lot of grunt....although an estate car without additional luggage space because of the batteries seems a bit daft?

Also.....torque-to-weight ratio? WTF? That's an utterly meaningless measurement, one car may have a much higher torque-to-weight ratio than another car, but have lower power-to-weight.....it won't be faster, it would be slower....
Trying climbing hills with a poor torque-to-weight ratio, then you will realise how meaningful it is.

Queue the pages and pages of arguing over what a shooting brake is hehe
That's easy, the answer is "a marketing term". smile
Also it's 'cue', not 'queue'. hth

when it really is shooting, this is still the best "shooting brake" you can buy

I'll get me coat....

If it's all about torque and nothing to do with power, how come a car with a dead flat torque curve from 1500rpm-6000rpm accelerates up a steep hill faster in 2nd gear from 5000rpm at 30mph than it does from 4th gear at 2000rpm? It'd producing the same torque, so why would one accelerate quicker in a lower gear if it's all about torque and not power? The gearing has no effect on the peak torque the engine is producing, but it does effect the power output to the wheels.

It's one of the ugliest cars ever made. If it had a Kia badge, folks would be lining up to laugh and point at it.

I like the back of it, the way it's slanted, kind of like the Honda Accord estate. Kind of looks like a stretched hatchback, while I don't think it's a looker, I think it will have a lot of road presence and will turn a lot of heads, give me a dark grey one that's been driving on a snow gritted m25 for 10 hours, will look like an apocalypse car, I like it!!

By the way I'm on about the Porsche not the Honda

+1

What the hell kind of nonsense is this PH?

A cyclist probably has a higher torque to weight ratio, but I'm not sure they would be faster than a 680hp Panamera!

I am so glad others have picked up on the torque-to-weight thing. It's utter nonsense. You can double the torque of an engine by fitting a simple mechanical device...

Because torque is what accelerates a car, power is just a function of torque x rpm.

So torque to weight is the measure of acceleration.
Its actually tractive effort which is why you need to consider the gearbox....

Are jaguar doing xfr wagon yet?

Really can't see why you would buy one if you need an estate, and if you don't need an estate why not just buy the normal panamara?

Rs6 gets my vote. Or this, if only it was a foot longer.

So how big is the boot then?

They should come up with some sort of "boot to torque" ratio.. see if they can get one up on audi with that one too.

Indeed. Which is why power to weight is a much better indicator of performance. Something may produce 1000lb ft of torque and weigh 1000kgs but if the engine only revs to 1000rpm, then it won't be as quick accelerating as something which weighs 1000kgs, produces 250lb ft of torque at 8000rpm, for example; despite having 1/4 of the torque to weight.

What is the time between chatting to a dealer and taking delivery on one of these?

Is that the talk/wait ratio?

Is this hillbilly Pistonheads. What is a wagon?

Shooting brake - 2 doors. Aston know what they are doing. That is an estate car, made by Porsche, comedy.
