why do posts that relate to videos effectively get binned?

most of us would rather it went there than have the entire forum filled with crapy vids and vblogs.

You're not, I think it's bloody annoying. If someone starts a thread on a specific subject and adds value to said thread by adding a video it should stay in the area that's relevant to the subject. If everything with a video in it gets moved to the YouTube thread there'll be loads of stuff in there of interest to loads of people who'll never see it because they're not about to trawl through the whole [mostly irrelevant] thread on the off-chance that someone's posted something in there about whatever topic they're interested in.

Just made a post about a 1200hp triple turbo mclaren 12c with a link to a video of it (from the onetake channel)
Immediately the post gets moved to a special "youtube video" thread currently at 125+ pages where virtually no-one will see it now.

am I the only one who thinks this is a daft thing to do?

Just start a thread, describe what you saw but dont post a video just yet ! as it will get moved, regardless of whether its a worthy topic on its own, unless of course you fancy adding "Time for Tea" to the video, those are allowed their own thread despite usually just being a video of a racing car.

I would suggest that rather than the flow chart of "Has it got a Youtube link", Yes, close it and stick it in the YouTube Sin Bin that perhaps a little value judgement on the merits of the potential thread to follow is taken, as to be honest the time for tea ones, though half decent dont really warrant it a lot of the time.

This is where I now have to listen to one of the mods poetry as punishment isnt it..

back to the point I'm trying to make. I made another post that a while back and it was developing into an interesting (to me) discussion with quite a few people commenting and then it got moved to the "video thread" as page ninety-something and died instantly. Just pointless

Having a youtube sub-forum would seem a sensible compromise.

True. All that sponsored Ken Block rubbish could go in there.

I agree; but people would still post in General Gassing and get butt-hurt when the video is moved.

I agree, it is annoying, 'youtube and the like' getting moved, when there is yet another PCP thread in General Gassing.

We were asked by members many moons ago to consolidate all clips into one collective thread, there were lots of reasons for doing this, some answers are in the links below.

Just three threads form many over the years.
