For me the selling point of the Leaf is being able to warm it up by remote before I need it - choose to nip out, pop the heater on through the app for 5 minutes while I'm buggering about to get out the door, get into a warm car. Perfect.

I am a bit of a lizard though, I really hate getting into a cold car.
A diesel V8 L322 range Rover will also remotely warm for you in a more threadlike fashion smile

For shop-pottering we keep an old Golf on the fleet.

ETA - A fleet of a frankly ridiculous 38 cylinders and 19.3 litres

My cylinder count is currently 0. Bought a Renault Zoe a few months back whichis proving to be a soulless but cheap hack. 1600 miles in now and not paid for a charge yet.

I’m glad that other folks agree with my plan to buy a LS430 for my roadtrip. Only issue now is finding a clean one within budget! Happy to travel for the right car but they seem to be thin on the ground. Sods law, when I didn’t need one there were loads about.

That's an interesting method of comparison. Let's share: mine is currently (but not for long) 62 cylinders and 30.5l

Ridiculous.

Heroic frankly. What's leaving your selection?

Mine stands at a mere 22 cylinders and 11.1 litres.

Good concept and one I've subscribed to in the past. Right tool for the right job and all that.

I think I'd probably be more turned on by something like another mint, old 1.0 Citroen AX, 10 year old Panda or early 205, although the NCAP benefits of going new and electric are obvious: my previous AX turned into an Ex-AX by way of a head-on after a Mondeo veered only my side of the carriageway. That woke me up.
I have this for running about the city and keep the V8 for family duties. Much more fun than an electric car. Cheap as chips to run and a hoot at legal speeds! Mine is the silver one

I'd love a clean MK1 in BRG. Only driven one once, but from memory the gearshift was a joy. Wonderful.

Finding a clean one is getting harder. Most are badly corroded

Literally just bought a BRG mk1. No rust as it was a late import and undersealed yearly when it hit the UK. It's in the garage until the weather cheers up a bit but I can't wait to get out and about in it!!

What’s the beard consensus on the GS300/430 as a backup option should I fail to secure a suitable LS400/430 in the next week or so?

I'm a long way from 'beard' status, but I've been happy with mine so far. I'm only 1 month and 800 miles into ownership though.

I've started a reader's car thread here:

I had a 1992 BRG MK1 MX5 and loved it. It was a V-spec Japanese import, but had spent about 10 years in the UK prior to my purchase and was quite rusty - the wings had been welded but were on the verge of needing complete replacement. I sold it to a colleague when I got a company car, stupidly thinking I wouldn't want to drive the mazda with a shiny new BMW on the drive, but really miss it now and may have to get another when I have the garage space.

I've had a couple of 80's in my time, and I love the B5 A4's. Am I right in saying the fit and finish of these must be mega? Or just the same as the cars I have experience of?

Almost Snap! If in a slightly different way of achieving the numbers. (and I’m missing a .1)

Can have fun with this too.

My ‘mean’ car is RWD, has 3 doors, a v11 engine wink , 478bhp, 400lbft of torque, 1.5 televisions, 0.5 dvd changers, is blue, is on first-name terms with all the local Shell dispensaries & has one idiot driver.
