Best smoker barges 1-5 large [Vol 12]
Discussion
The e38 is still (to me at least) the definitive saloon car shape, i.e. the one you point at, to explain. Think I'd prefer the 740 out of the two above.
Apropos of not very much, I put my winter tyres on the 760 this morning. Gone for Michelin PA4 in 245/50/18 flavour all-round, from 255/40/20f & 285/35/20r. (PS4S's)
Initial thoughts are:
That the steering is instantly more fluid, crisp, and linear in response to the wheel - I will have to wait a few hundred miles to be sure - could just be wet roads & releasing agent.
I have spent over 2 thousand pounds this year, on tyres alone, for this car.
The ride/comfort does not appear to have changed to any appreciable degree. Considering the increase in sidewall size, on what is a big, heavy car, I'm somewhat disappointed. Time will tell, I guess. (Of course - the alternative view is that the dynamic drive suspension gubbins just does a good job, so wheel size is mainly an aesthetic consideration!? Thoughts?)
Related- it actually doesn't look as bad as I expected, on the smaller wheels.

Interesting, I would've thought the reduction in unsprung weight going from 20" to 18" would make a noticeable difference. Unless there isn't much of a difference of course.Apropos of not very much, I put my winter tyres on the 760 this morning. One thing to check is the sidewall load index and that you haven't gone too hard.Related- it actually doesn't look as bad as I expected, on the smaller wheels.
Jaguar, for example specify a 96 but most tyres seem to be 100 so your choice of replacement needs more consideration.
Just a thought.

Nice looking car and probably the sensible engine to have. I may have been admiring this 740. I reckon they've hit rock bottom now. The only way is up.
Not a Nissan Leaf
Still haven't replaced the W126 we sold a while ago.Not a Nissan Leaf
Something like this might fit the bill.

One owner for 14 years and 83k for this 3.5 Vel Satis at £1249 from a slightly dubiously named dealer... No, it's not a 7 series. So why am I drawn to cr+p like this?!

Quite possibly the worst set of pics I've ever seen on an advert.https://www.gumtree.com/p/renault/renault-vel-sati...

I love barging.
But I’m too afraid to actually do it so my next purchase will probably be an Audi S4 Avant or the new 252 PS A4 quattro which will most likely depreciate like a train...
Do it of six months with a budget of £2k. The worst that can happen is you loose the £2k. But realistically you won't. I dread to think what the depreciation on a no doubt excellent if stiffly sprung and rather ubiquitous A4 will be. The finance cost will be £2k plus £350 a month, so not cheap either. But I’m too afraid to actually do it so my next purchase will probably be an Audi S4 Avant or the new 252 PS A4 quattro which will most likely depreciate like a train...
I notice that most the finance deals I receive by email are looking for 9months up front. I infer that some of the leasing companies are starting to have cash flow issues caused by end of lease returns not covering their own exposure.

What are your barge plans?
Mine are to sell 3 of the 5 barges, keeping the SL but getting the exhaust sorted. I may allow myself to notch up another barge in the form of something AMG.
Mine is to sell my CLS, drive round in my C1 for a bit, get the building work done on the house, get middle kid finished at Uni, see what happens with my job as the company is being taken over, then get something else, it probably wont be a barge, done that for now, am thinking Golf GTi or similar.Mine are to sell 3 of the 5 barges, keeping the SL but getting the exhaust sorted. First part proving difficult, dropped by another £100 today.

Well, it's coming up to a year since I bought my (slightly over thread budget) JDM Scoobie Legacy, I said then I might just keep it for a year then get something a bit less potentially high strung.Mine are to sell 3 of the 5 barges, keeping the SL but getting the exhaust sorted. But as I've just spent a solid couple of days finishing off the install of some decent ICE, looks like I'll only be browsing the thread for a while longer
