One owner for 14 years and 83k for this 3.5 Vel Satis at £1249 from a slightly dubiously named dealer... No, it's not a 7 series. So why am I drawn to cr+p like this?!

Quite possibly the worst set of pics I've ever seen on an advert.
I very much doubt it's just the pics laugh

I might change my username to Macron, as I'm irrationally attracted to elderly French things that are bound to cause problems.

I do love keeping up to date on this thread, though nothing has so far tempted me from my 540 Touring.

What are your barge plans?

Mine are to sell 3 of the 5 barges, keeping the SL but getting the exhaust sorted. I may allow myself to notch up another barge in the form of something AMG.
W210 E55 AMG estate?

An e39 does always seem like an ever appealing option when after a cheap barge.

Same colour as mine (doom blue as I've heard it described). I've hankered with the idea of moving onto a e55k but im now very attached to the s210, sure the e55k is faster but the s210 is still a quick car, certainly quick enough for me and still has that old style merc feeling.

The AMG 210 looks OK - definitely highly sort after (sic).

How about a couple of rather tatty thread favourites to kick off my contribution to vol 12.

Is a 325i really worth more than 3 grand?

Brave background shots but a lovely interior and history. A 22 year old seller with a 126 is, by definition, cool and very much to be trusted. Maybe.

fk it, it's a new volume, let's push the rules. Lifted from the 'other thread' (Lovely Cars 5-10, but out of even that elevated funding stream), this is a thing of true beauty. An uber-barge amongst barges.

This Greek vendor had a lovely XJS that I was chasing for ages, but we couldn't make a deal. I now see that he's selling this rather yummy thing. Aside from being 'Uniqie', over-budget and in Athens, I love it.

I defy you to find a cooler car for the money.

The e55 is at 141k miles according to the mot history which has a slight gap. MOT expired 2015 then not retested until Aug 2017.

My barge plans are to sell the e39 540iT, and then replace it with who knows what...? I think I have a fairly seriously interested potential buyer... We'll see.

The replacement has to be an estate.

An E class 500 or an amg e55 are tempting.... but as 2 of my 3 children are away at Uni I could downsize slightly. A C class perhaps...

Hmmm decisions, decisions...

Might sell the M5 (questionable barge I know) in the spring if I can sell if for a profit and perhaps get an MX-5 (NC Facelift) or perhaps even a nice R129 and a nice 540 tourer instead.

On board for Vol XII.

Will this be the era in which the 'renovation' opposite The Palm is finally completed!?

Hmmm barge plans? To gaze wistfully at large petrol engine barges whilst waiting for childcare costs to subside.

Thanks for the comments re new LS. I've hit my first problem with it.

I was actively seeking a smarter one than the battle scarred, comfy beer stained pub Chesterfield that is my old LS, and knew it was going to be a tidy one for the money. But I didn't expect pristine. Which it is. Unmarked in fact, which means it shows every mark. And unmarked cars are too hassly and stressful to keep that way if you have a family. I've been hating myself all day for preening and fussing over finger marks and crumbs on the carpet, even resorting to grubbing around with the other V8 (the Dyson) in the dark and drizzle like an idiot, whereas in the old warrior the muddy wellies were slung in and the Cadbury's Flakes handed around at fuel stops.

My plans are similar, only it's insurance costs for me. The woes of the not yet 20 year old barge appreciationist. Mind you, driving a Volvo does hopefully mark me out as a bargist-to be!

What do people think to this, are they reliable?
I drove the hybrid version on an 08 years ago. It wasnt remotly sporty or a drivers car, but then again they are not made for this. But a very comfy relaxed car. Though the dash boards do look dated as with most Lexus's.
