We used to have a 51 plate 200k and that would do about 25mpg average around town, i had a TT 225 and that did 25mpg too and a 645ci cabriolet that did 23mpg - it doesn't seem to matter too much what engine i had, they all did around the same.

You said you've had E46's before - have you tried a E63?
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Still a relatively rare sight on the roads and have aged well - this one is just the first i pulled from AT and should be within thread budget with a bit of haggling.
Thanks for the info and hadn't thought about the 6 series...... although still not sure myself if i l. ike the look of them?!
The 6 looks about 10 years younger than the CLK. That might be a good or a bad thing to you!

The 750i looks slightly expensive to my eyes and i'm not keen on the dull combo of dark blue and grey leather.
Considering selling it if you are interested ?
Only if you're interested in a 996!

Thanks for the relies, gents. Yes, C215 is definitely over priced at asking price, I know that.
The 650i seems 'about' there, perhaps £500 too much (if service history checks out okay) when compared with other examples.

Yeah, no way a five grand car that, three if you are keen.
It's finding someone willing to put cash towards a deal, though.

Regarding keeping the Porsche, I'd really like to (and was stung my getting rid of an E36 M3 Evo at the wrong time, lost about £5/6k on that!) but there's a few things coming up where the money would really help.

As we already own a house, the stamp duty on this other one I'm looking at is a good chunk, as well as the deposit.
And it isn't a house, it's a church. So there's everything that goes with converting a Grade 2* listed church into a home.

I'm obsessing about BMW E63s now, thanks to this thread. They have aged well to my eyes and are pretty cheap with the reliable 3.0 straight 6. Any love for them here?

That's a whole new thread on it's own, right there...

Agreed. Start a thread and post a link Bargeists love property porn too!

+1. My taste in houses is completely barge. Old, massive, ruinously impractical.

Haha, thanks! Well the viewing is booked for next week so I'll go from there.
I KNOW 996's will rise nicely (not stupid money, but I can genuinely see a little bit of appreciation over the next 5 years) but, at the same time, I'm yet to lose any money on houses, either!

Wouldn't surprise if it doesn't sell, they aren't a classic yet. Modern cars don't sell very well at all in Anglia classic auctions.

A friend had a dark blue 630i with black leather, SE spec. It was a really smart, discreet car with a lovely engine. Really, really a smashing car.

I had a black on black 04 645 - was a lovely motor and did everything from a cruise to a blast.

Needed a louder exhaust for the V8 which i never quite got around to - and cup holders!

Excellent value for money and i personally think they have aged well - still love the buttresses at the rear on the convertible - and 4 useable seats (just)

Those wheels are REALLY nice. Prefer the coupe to the convertible on that 6 series.

I had to swap to those wheels from the 19" elliptical wheels that you see on a lot of cars as they are prone to cracking - and with RFT's setting you back best part of £1,200 i got fed up getting the original wheels repaired.

Aren't they the same as the wheels fitted to 7 series?

Had a quick look at this on the Anglia site...but found myself more drawn to the 560 SEL. Look forward to the pics going up.

Good question. I temember reading about them using aluminium and plastic (I think) for certain panels. Bet they're still 1800kgs or more.

Not a proper barge but I thought I’d ask in here in the hope of some sensible advice;
Has anyone of this parish driven a 1.6 Petrol Volvo S40? Nice one for sale locally and contemplating changing my 1.6D C30 for it, but concerned it might be a bit gutless?
Going to go and have a look at the weekend but just thought I’d see if anyone had any input in the meantime?
I assume this is the 2004 onwards S40? It is indeed quite gutless, and the later the car the better as there was a facelift in 2007 or so (internal trim changes the easiest way to spot it) that sorted out almost all the irritating problems. The 1.8 or 2.0 will use barely any extra fuel. The only one to really avoid is the 2.0D if it has that rubbish PSA wet DPF system, the best ones to have are the 5 cylinder D5/4/3 models and the earlier 2.4i and T5. T5 uses no more fuel than the 2.4i and is far faster. The 1.6 is a "4th gear on motorway hills" kind of car.

Check for crazy external temperature readings as that's a common problem and screws with the climate control until fixed. They use stter dampers than the old Volvos so if it's done more than 90K and it's on the originals it'll feel wobbly. There is a common issue with the ATE ABS controller (common to several other manufacturers at the time) where you get a warning in the dash about the Anti Skid system so don't assume it's just an ABS sensor if you see this. £300 or so for a new controller, it used to be a grand. Sorted from 2007/8 onwards.

Other than that just the usual 10 year old car checks. They don't rust, trim and interior should look very good for the mileage, parts are cheap enough, and they ride and drive very nicely if the suspension is not tired out. A better car than a contemporary Audi A3 or a Golf in practically every way.

That doesn't look 13 years old at all. Back to Autotrader I go!

Are the automatic gearboxes reliable?

If it's a proper auto (IE - a slush box) then you'll be fine.
