Oh yes! Or a C6. The petrol v6. I would imagine they are incredibly hard to find.
There is a solitary petrol C6 lurking above thread budget on eBay.

It doesn’t look to have driven very far at all and has been stood around a lot judging by the cracked tyres filing then mot. It has some damage to the rear arch and ominously they mention a cloth interior but show no photos. No MOT either.

Would be hard to opt for this over a £4K 2.7 diesel with the lounge seats.

Slightly off topic conversation... what are your barge unscratched itches?

I have done a BMW (well old) 7, an Audi A8, an XJ (BOOM!) now the Lexus LS400, but surprisingly given I’m a merc fan, never an S-Class. At some point I will have to get that w126 or 600 twin turbo (slightly at opposite ends in speed and tech terms!).

My other itch is something Swedish or French.

What barge 1-5 do you feel you need to own at some point in the future?
My ipad is now playing silly buggers & won’t load car & classic pages for some inexplicable reason, but I want an Avantime one day.
https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/list/36/avantime/

But probably not any of those 3.

That looks great!
You're quickly getting the hang of this Joeseppi, nice spot.

The car looks in terrific condition, but could a chap live with those colours? I'd feel I'd need a bumper pack of Werthers and a hat of some sort to really gel with that, but rust-free and a MB SH could go a long way to overcome the suburban dullness.

I defer to r129sl on matters-Mercedes; what does the merc-meister think?

Thanks CDG biggrin

Yeah i know what you mean about the colour combo, it's a bit Alan Partridge/Daily Mail reader.

Brave call.
This might be a better option. What's going on with the front seat? Is that just the light, or different colours?

I like Werthers Original (not the new fangled products they have came out with recently).

The day I bought the Lexus, I also purchased a new pair of slippers. A sucuessful day for comfort, I think.

I'd love a Citroen XM Estate
I've done a E65 BMW 7 series (loved it, even though it was the 730d) and we currently have a slightly battered L322. I have a strange desire for a Volvo V70, but otherwise pretty mainstream barge desires, mainly Merc flavoured. CL500 came closest to opening my wallet recently. Recent thread chat does have me looking at Lexi too, but little love for Audis.

Nice bit of kit
That's a lovely car. It has been painted: the boot badge has been put back on wrong. But of course it has been painted: it's 22 years old. I am a fan of the w210: after all, I own one. They feel very traditional Merc, even if the cost has been taken out of them. They ride and handle very well. They are very, very refined. A lot of "very"s here! Mine has proved very reliable. They are discreet. That one is really old school in its colours and spec (in a good way).

I can't seen any downsides. But.... Just because it is petrol, does not mean it would get the stickers for Paris and Germany. It is quite old petrol. And diesel is still significantly cheaper than petrol in many places on the continent. It lacks heated seats: are you turning left or right at Calais? And 204bhp is not going to be that impressive in the Fatherland. Finally, would you want LHD?

Slightly cheeky but serious question: what about my E430...

I’ve had the opposite of you: an XM (my first car!), a C6, a few W123’s, and currently a W126. I’ve never scratched the jaguar itch but doubt I ever will, despite a lusting for a red XJ40 like the one in the CAR article that teenage me read inside-out.

Also, I’ve never owned a Volvo, and I think I’d like one. It would have to be rectangular though which I guess means a 9-something or a 7-something or earlier.

Unscratched barge itches...

W116 450 SEL 6.9
W124 500E / E500
W140 500 or 600 SEL
G12 M760 Li (especially since my test drive)
Bentley Arnage

The list is honestly pretty long.

Get one. It won't disappoint. You may not want to keep it forever, but it will be fun for a while. I ran a really ropey eBay '40 (sub-£300). It was marvellous. The ride was out of this world. Everything was broken on it. A pal turned up in a Bentley Flying Spur; a visiting relative who knows nothing about cars preferred the Jag.

Well done Prinny, at that price if the car and the roof work then you'll not go far wrong.

I like the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 for standard pre-facelift R129 wheels in 225/55/R16 99Y. Not too expensive - probably the cheapest of the premium offerings - but a great tyre.

Great work Prinny, that particular one was never going to hang around for long. They are super cars. And just in time for summer.

Brilliant, looks great. Glad it's all sorted for another few years of service.

Do W124s belong on this thread anymore? Being 22-33 years old they're 'proper' classics now surely?

That said I'd be the last to advocate that we shouldn't have hem here, which defeats the whole point of this post.

As you were!

I’m calling it for one of mine being knocked off right now. Purchase incoming!

As you all know, I keep wittering on about wanting an SL. I was all setup to be ‘phone bidding (unseen) on this, on Friday: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C971233

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-500sl-Con...

But then the ebay one mentioned earlier today popped up yesterday in my saved searches, and Liverpool isn’t that far from me...
Some of you may recognise the big blue thing lurking in the background too.

It’s got 4 mismatched cheapo tyres, the aerial doesn’t work, and each front arch has some slight blistering, but nothing major. & the bumper scuff mentioned in the ad. It’s not perfect, sure, but I can fettle it gradually, the plan was always to get a gingercator car for preference, so I’m quite happy now. Should be picking up Tues. (save on rfl) wink

Will let you all know how it goes of course!

edit: Oh, and the spoiler will probably go at some stage.

Also... If the above hadn’t happened, I was considering a trip to Glasgow. I know the Sacco panels are wrong, but it otherwise feels ‘right’ to a non-beard like me. (much learning to do I have). Thoughts?

Nice buy, well done. Can you get rid of the spoiler very sooner?! As Zonergem observes, these are massively undervalued. Just compare with the 500 E. They are also incredibly well built.

I do think the W210 design is ageing particularly well.

It’s a shame so many of them are rotten.
If only Merc had not skimped on the painting, these would be the barges to end all barges and they undoubtedly ould be highly prized. But for the rot, they are way better than the 124 and 211. I particularly like the super-capacious estates. But that but is just too big to ignore.
