RE: Lotus Evora GT430: Driven

What price were the batches of GTEs?
I bought mine direct from the factory (Lotus Motorsport) in 2015 for £79,200, Other customers paid a bit more through dealers and the full carbon one was much more. But the GTE was a different prospect to the GT430. It was only “marketed” through word of mouth. New CEO Gales just wanted the 20 units gone and had no intention of making any more. Don’t forget that predecessor Bahar originally expected the GTE to retail at about £120,000 with the trick Swindon engine and automated manual gearbox, so today’s price of the GT430 doesn’t look excessive.Porsche911R said:
I would buy one at £80k
I just like the joke of them all sold like the Exige CUP where there is a choice and still open slots.
Like wise this is not sold out even if there are only making 60 cars.
Buyers are voting to keep away at these prices.
That does not make it a bad car , it just makes it too expensive.
TVR can launch a new car from scratch with all bespoke parts and a proper engine at £90k Lotus buy all the parts in, have an old engine and want this daft price !
I still have hopes for the 2020 Elise if it's priced right and not under powered but as it stands I cannot buy into a new Lotus at todays prices.
A refreshing point of view yet again.I just like the joke of them all sold like the Exige CUP where there is a choice and still open slots.

Same old st from the same old people.
Easy to have that attitude when you can afford whatever you want.. Why do you think the "same old st" keeps coming up?Thats what we're talking about, lets face it. Lotus is a working man's hero. Are you saying that because I can't afford 100k cars, as a petrolhead we suddenly don't have anything in common? my business is not needed anymore? why don't we just make Lotus another toy for the wealthy, they clearly need more and then when they're bored of it, we can watch Lotus fail again. I want to see Lotus in 50 years time!

Lotus need to sell cars at 100k, they don't have volume to survive at 30k.Thats what we're talking about, lets face it. Lotus is a working man's hero. Further, their engineering skills justify that price level too.
Why not bang on VAG's door and say "hey, here's my cash, give me a simple sports car for 30k". Alternatively go to Mazda.
Big companies can make niche cars pay at 30k.
old news this thread now, Lotus have lauched yet another car today any way lol
the thing with Porsche is they cycle every 4 years so you get to be in the newest car for upto 4 years
Lotus bring a new car out every month ! rendering the new car which you just bought out of date.
All though the Elise cup 260 does look good but at £60k plus options the Elise has also got VERY expensive.

it is old news David, but many here are encouraging Lotus to survive. They're in turnaround phase. Easy to take pot shots.the thing with Porsche is they cycle every 4 years so you get to be in the newest car for upto 4 years

You might be too young to remember that not so long ago Porsche was just about bankrupt and that their plan was to cut the 911.
We all know that Porsche are now dominant, but if you happily accept that it's game over then in future that'll be the only sports car you can choose. I don't want to live in socialist Russia or China.

Every Lotus thread seems to boil down to the same old debates. Price, Porsche and business strategy. By people who probably know very little.

people who probably know very little....
Like those of us who haven't noticed the expensive new Lotus factory was supposed to be building 10,000 cars a year but only makes 2,000 cars a year, so is now owned by some far eastern fellows who've never built a sportscar in their lives. What's truly astounding is that you can buy two sportscars, a new Corvette Stingray AND a new Porsche 718 for the same money Lotus is asking for one of these Evoras.

Those "far Eastern fellows" have a good track record so I wouldn't bet against them.

If the future is everyone driving a Porsche then I'll gladly sign up and take a Porsche, ta.You might be too young to remember that not so long ago Porsche was just about bankrupt and that their plan was to cut the 911.

Really? How bleak!
Presumably we should have the same colour Porsche and listen to the same song on the stereo. You know, the good one as everything else is rubbish.
I might go and watch Bladerunner 2049 again in an attempt to feel a bit more optimistic about the future.
Can't you just drive a Porsche and spend your time on Porsche forums instead?
