Reporting an untaxed vehicle
Discussion
Some shady characters were standing outside a Vauxhall van loitering and walking around parked cars at a petrol station. Mr nosy here had suspicions and entered the details in to DVLA .. here’s what i found. It’s had MOT’s every year but no tax (since it changed hands)
When they got back in to the van
I can’t report it without getting the info of where it’s parked every day !
Should i bother chasing the DVLA about it?

Why did they get rid of the paper tax disc? What was the reason for it? Because the current process is far easier to avoid paying for tax with not having to display any proof.
The amount of cars I've seen clamped for no tax is unbelievable
That doesn't really sound like they avoided it in a useful way, to be honestThe amount of cars I've seen clamped for no tax is unbelievable

Yes but how long have they been getting away with it for until they get clamped? Bring back the paper disc I say
I would imagine by the end of the paper disc, the vast majority were getting caught by ANPR rather than a foot patrol that happened to notice the disc had expired. I honestly don’t think it would make any meaningful difference to the likelihood of getting caught The DVLA site asks you where the vehicle usually is and what times, which wont be much use when you've spotted it out and about.
They do act on information though, as I recently reported a car that was local to me and a couple of weeks later a DVLA clamp was on it.
The car had been abandoned on a narrow piece of road of all places, so glad to see the back of it!

The DVLA history check on the MOT says the van has only covered approx 2400 miles between July 2015 - Sept 2017 with no MOT showing between August 2016 to Sept 2017, latest MOT carried out in Ashford (TN postcode)
That’s about 90 miles from me. Very odd. It is insured on AskMID.People in question were two hooded chaps in trackies just loitering around and acting strangely. Funny that they didn’t actually fuel the van.. in the pic you can see the van in the fuelling area. They ended up getting back in the van and just sitting there with the lights off and then they started the engine but didn’t actually leave. I was parked there for well over half an hour but they didn’t even leave in that time.
