Why oh why don't they put some real effort in and produce something properly focused? Like others have said, it can't be that hard.

The Elise 260 Cup looks far more special and desirable.

What a terrible piece of film. Jarring, and not in an exciting way!

shorter gears aren't of any consequence in the real world.
if that's true then the car has little interest to me.
it might well be true too, which is a shame.
The gearing on our Manual carrera 991.2 seems spot on to me. But what do I know.

So in fact just another exclusive model? Rather like the “not limited” GT3 touring that ended up not limited as long as you already had a GT3 allocation!

I think we are at a real threshold now for driving enthusiasts who rather than listen to how the 0-60 mph time has dropped by a few tenths and how quick it can lap the Ring with each model succession, we would simply rather have a slower car that offers a more involving drive. Hence, why it will be the 997 variant that will be looked upon as the definitive modern 911 especially in GTS or GT3 form as the years progress. Get one now.

Normally aspirated, manual box and sonorous exhaust note for me every time.

Nylon door loops, I'd love to know what that saves!

Currently run a 997.1 GT3 which I love......... but honestly don’t use her as much as I would like for obvious reasons my previous 997 Carrera S was much less of a event but much more usable
Find this quite attractive slightly more usable proposition

Apparently - probably about right. Next gen 911 must be due soon-ish, so they can't make that many. I think it's a great idea, not sure I'd have banged on about the weight saving 20kg is hardly anything - putting one of my kids in the car would more than negate that. But the kit you get is pretty good and you can get stuff that you can't on a normal Carrera. On a 991.1, this would have been utterly epic! By the way most of the stuff that you don't get (when compared to a std Carrera) can be optioned back at no cost e.g. rear seats and infotainment system.

I like this. Not sure why they did not add the S brakes to the mix though

I can't imagine it being more than a couple of packets of crisps. Plus it just seems utterly ridiculous. I'd be embarrassed explaining that to someone.

"why has it not got a door handle, and has nylon instead"

"that's to save weight, darling"

you'd sound so, so cool! hehe

What's the opinions on the likely residuals on one of these? Is it gonna drop to 60k in a few years? Is the 992 due about 2019?
Impossible question I know, it's hard to judge the demand for it. It's certainly not a bargain compared to a GT4 for example.

Instead of making more pointless models like this why not just allocate more production line space to the gt3 so we can buy an actual driver focused car from porsche.

I'm not impressed by this T either.

I want to see a new genuine base model. 2+2, NA version of the 3.0 engine (can't be too hard to drop the turbos & intercooler), manual, virtually no standard equipment, manual-not-electric everything.

Figures around 300 bhp & 1200kg (= 250bhp/tonne) would be easy for them to make. It'd be the slowest & sweetest new 911 on the road. Don't call it Carrera or anything. Just "911". Simple.

In the absence of such a model, abstain. For a daily get a basic 996 or 997, for a weekender either the same or go air cooled. All are narrow, raw, responsive, loud, and FAR more fun than anything on new sale today.

You say "want to see", does that mean, if they made it, you wouldn't buy it? Or would you?

That'd be catering for a very, very small market indeed and I don't think they'd make much from it. I'm not sure anyone really makes a really lightweight 2+2 do they? Must be a reason they aren't too popular....

MX5s sell pretty well.
There's an increasing number of people who can obtain (if not buy) serious toys & status things. A Porsche MX5 would hold quite wide appeal while still leaving the more serious models untainted.
So, the business case is to hook the buyer into a brand and let them aspire to go up the ladder.

You're not far off what I was saying recently.

Look at the rally cars from around 20 years ago. Subaru made cars in pretty much this exact spec (1250kg / 280 bhp). With some minor fettling, you could easily have a car that had headline figures exceeding that. They even made an 1185kg model right off the showroom floor with warranty (this was the WRX RA).

I'm not impressed by what feels like the dozens of new models that came out in the last few weeks. Lots of power, lots of tyres / traction, and you need to be going at serious speed to get thrills. At that speed, if things go wrong, if a child walks out onto a road, or if a tractor is coming the other way down a narrow road, or if someone is coming the wrong way down your side of the road, all it takes is a very minor distraction, well, at that speed, it could be dire.

you mean a smaller, sweeter handling 4 cylinder option, something cheaper than the 911 range, something like a Boxster then?
