I had two XJR’s, 2004 and 2008. Those were cars I yearned to have. The old Geoff Lawson design brilliantly captured the agility of the 1968 original. Ironically the earlier one was better. The later one had 21” wheels which spoiled the ride. P I have an XJR reg number just waiting to be used, but the Callum concept just doesn’t do anything for me. It’s big and dumpy. It does NOT look poised when standing still. I’m sure that it goes well enough but I would so much rather have the new M5 and that’s probably better built as well. All in all the Callum era isn’t going all that well. XK was good. XF was good till they facelifted it now it’s just ordinary. XE is a very competent small saloon. F Type looks OK but it has no boot space, too heavy and Grandad transmission. XJ is bluntly a mess.

They had one of these at Geneva as the only XJ on the stand. Unlike some others I love the look of the current XJ especially inside and think it is a great step on. The 575 version though was not the usual XJR trick of a thug in a Savile Row suit, it was more a case of dad wearing sons tracksuit. Shame

Very sad, its a latter day Dagenham dustbin. Depreciates like an elephant going down a sink hole. Yes the interior is good, but the exterior just looks so uninspired. Slab sided, front end just an exaggerated XF, long straggling side related to neither front nor rear, and a rear end that looks as if it came out of a blancmange mould. it's about as dynamic as the new VW Beetle. Who would want one, now or ever. I predict an early demise. Rather sad because the X300 was brilliant and the X350, though a little bulky from certain angles, still damn good.

You predict the early demise of a car launched in 2009 and also state it’s as dynamic as a beetle whereas it is considered a good example, if not the best dynamically sorted car of its sector? Good work.

Yeah it’s right at the end of its model cycle and dynamically it’s better than any XJ before it and class leading. I think it was a much needed break with tradition. After all the XJ was always supposed to be experimental not look like the same car for 40 years. I just don’t think the XJR version quite works this time. I’ll keep my XJ coupe

I think that the dynamic sorting happened with the X350, which I loved, so the new XJ was basically a facelift. Styling is a personal thing. Like the Porsche Panamera, I just don’t think it works. Maybe it’s me.

The X358 was a facelift of the X350. The current XJ (X51) shares parts of the chassis and the basics of a Diesel engine with the 350 and that’s about it. Even the suspension setup is completely different as the new car only has air suspension at the rear.

I like the current model X351 XJ but the XJR displays a disturbing tackyness that began to creep into the Jaguar range with the ghastly X358 facelift that achieved the near impossible task of making the execrable X350 look even worse. The grandad in a tracksuit facelift on the X-Type to allow them to keep flogging the greasy spot where the dead horse used to be was similarly awful.

As others have said, a far cry from the understated brutality of the previous XJR and other high performance Jaguar models.

Well, I think that the current XJ looks like Grandad in a long dressing gown trying to take part in a marathon and failing. The X350 was not great from the rear quarter. From every other angle it worked. I think that they are keeping this model alive because they can’t be seen to have a failure. I don5 know anyone who would actually buy one.
