After 2 miles behind him at a straight I nipped past, only to be met with a horn and flashing lights?!? Car behind also overtook, also subject to flashing lights. If you are going to dither around, don't get angry when people over take.
Let's be honest. 50 is safe for you, but not for him. Don't like the flashing and horn though. If he wants to drive slower, fine,. But allow others to pass without implied agression.

This morning's bellend was a woman at a large roundabout (where else?) I was doing a right turn and approaching my exit, she was at the exit before mine and decided she could definitely make it for a straight across but clearly couldn't. Then she honked me because she had to stop to avoid planting her car in my passenger door as though it's my fault she can't judge entry to a roundabout.

Specifically, last night, while I was on my bike approaching a give-way line at a particularly wide-mouthed 'T' junction. I was coming off a quiet road onto a far "bigger" road. There was no traffic behind me, so I approached the junction centrally, then made a 90° left turn, behind and parallel with the double dashed line. This was because I'd identified a car approaching from my left and needed to give way to it and join behind it. As there was nothing on the road behind this one car, I'd adjusted my speed and position to match the gap behind the car, and was planning on "popping out" behind it without needing to stop and put a foot down.
All went to plan until the driver of the BMW braked hard, and came to an abrupt halt from, at a guess, about 50 to 55 mph. Now I had to stop too, and put a foot down. Which I did, under complete control (plan to stop, look to go) and I was still well behind the 'give way' line. Now I don't know why this Berkley Hunt stopped like that, nor do I care. Possibly he wasn't concentrating and panicked when he saw my rear light 2 feet inside the junction. But his braking was a complete waste of time in accident avoidance terms, because he was about 10 feet beyond me when his car stopped (always drive at a speed from which you can safely stop in the road space you can see to be clear, anyone?). Maybe he saw a cyclist and presumed I would plough on through the junction with no regard for my own safety? (Highly unlikely, by the way, self preservation is my guiding principle on a bicycle). Whatever the reason, there was no need to have stopped at all. Even if I had pulled out ahead of him, the opposite lane was empty, and it being a straight section of road, it was clearly empty of oncoming traffic, so if he'd seen me and was expecting me to pull out, a simple lane change (and a horn blast I'd have deserved if I'd done something that stupid) would have seen us both right.
And yet, cars roll up to give way lines and smoothly join traffic without actually stopping all day every day. Why is it that when a cyclist rides as he would drive that these flange-wanglers can't seem to cope with judging speed and distance? There was no other interaction between me and the driver. He didn't get out and rant and rave or anything. I just waited a few seconds, he eventually drove away again, and I just shook my head in disbelief and checked there was nothing else approaching from my right before turning out onto the road and carrying on home. I'm just confused as to why drivers react like this? For the benefit of Mr Magoo, it was lane one, the far left lane or to quote the masses, 'the slow lane'. Either way I was in the right place for sitting at 70mph, overtaking no one and cruising along a relatively empty motorway.

So you were facing the same direction of the BMW, but not on the same road behind a give way line, and not stopped. To him it'd have looked like you were unaware of him and going to pull out infront of him. Delightful woman this morning who pulled out in-front of me from a side road to my left, we very nearly had a coming together, it was my fault apparently as I was indicating left; I had been as I was just coming round a left turn from a roundabout just prior to where she was coming out, but I had turned the indicator off, I assume she looked to her right saw me indicating, looked to her left and instead of re-checking her right (if she had she would have seen that I was no longer indicating) and then just went for it.

I couldn't work out if the consistency of my speed caught them out or if they expected me to slow down when they were going faster than me anyway.
I was taught to not merge back across until I could see the car in my rear view mirror. Both of these drivers moved across way too quickly and too close!

I'm glad it's not just me who has experienced this, I've recently been using my car trailer so I'm doomed to the inside lanes and 60mph, the amount of cocksockets who repeatedly overtake you, then slow down or cut in far too quickly - particularly close to junctions then bang on their brakes - CAN YOU SEE THE fThree times I had this happen on the M4 on Sunday evening.
