RE: Porsche 911 GT2 RS: Driven
Discussion
I know Porsche are oft accused of charging crazy money for cars but i have to say to get that level of performance for that much money is an utter bargain.
Plus we know it'll hit those figures on a track and drive you home, start on a frosty day and be "Relatively" cheap to run.
Incredible car.

Amazing, but looks like a dogs dinner.
I'm amazed about the amount of people that like the look. If it were a Techart, or any other tuner they'd complain. It's pretty hideous.Sometimes with 911s, less really is more.
Does the 2rs actually have a dry sump engine? Afaik, it's an adapted turbo s engine rather than a turbo'd variant of the gt3/3rs engine which does have a true dry sump that the standard 9A1 even in turbo form does not. Been keeping an eye out for the technical dets of the engine but just haven't seen any reference to that.

I respect what it's done, but can't get onboard with the looks.
I've had a few GT3s and for me, the RS models with the huge wings look a little tragic. This car takes it up several notches; i'm aware it's functional but I'd be embarrassed to drive what looks like a 13 year old's wet dream.
As such, not bothered I didn't get chosen for this one - hope the lucky few enjoy it!
If you were to put this car next to a Huracan Performante and asked to choose which one you are taking home, who would seriously choose this?I've had a few GT3s and for me, the RS models with the huge wings look a little tragic. I would happily give up 70 bhp for the far better looks, noise and driving experience of the Lamborghini.

I find Porsche really boring right now - even this just comes across as "meh".
It's all far too civilsed - this is a GT2 RS for goodness sake, and I'll bet you it's just as lovely pootling around London as your 4 cylinder Cayman. Too big, styling that's lost the plot, fking sat nav and aircon.. "Would sir like a massage function in his racing bucket seats?" - bet that's not far off.
I don't like it at all. It's artificial. Moaning bd? Accurate moaning.

You've got a point. For me there are too many "special" 911s...such that even the RS models are slightly lost in a series of endless variations of really much the same thing. It even slightly reminds me of Ford back in the 80s of endless model derivatives......but when there are too many I kind of switch off.
I'm sure Porsche's business model is absolutely sound and there will be queues around the block at the OPC...

How does the charge cooler work? Do I understand it correctly that you need to full a water tank accessible in the front?
Sounds like it does what the M4 GTS does - it sprays water in to the cold charge duct. A charge cooler uses water circulated in a sort of radiator to cool inlet charge temps (in place of an air-air intercooler).
So I suspect some clarification from the author is needed.

I wonder what this is performance-wise compared to a 720S? I suspect McLaren will do a (more expensive) track-oriented 720S ala 675LT; but the weights for this and the 720S are very similar, as are the power outputs. Porsche does seem to be far less refined, though, and has a ridiculously large rear wing!
in a straight line the 720s would kill it, there's nothing really outside of a Chiron/konig that can match it in a lineon track the gt2 should be fine
I'll take a slower, more soulful Ferrari over this geeky laboratory apparatus please. It must take a pretty dull person to like a Porsche these days. And those stickers and wings on their GT series looked good when Max Power was popular but these days you just look like the town cryer driving one on a city road.

Sure does, 997 GT2 RS looks much better than this.
I think this version is nicer than the 997Plus, at only 200k this model is a comparitve bargain to a 997 GT2 RS
Here is used one, with over 10,000 miles, for nearly 400k
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
If a 997 GT2 RS is near 400k what will this thing cost?
They may as well have the list price as $50k for all it matters

Have you seen modern Ferraris?Trophy-GTA said:

Whereas Ferraris are positively shrinking violets on an average High Street.Trophy-GTA said:

This is a CC (although in this case it is in series with a IC). it is a water jacket going around the Air intake, the water is cooled by a rad at the front of the car.A charge cooler uses water circulated in a sort of radiator to cool inlet charge temps (in place of an air-air intercooler).
