The fact is that if you want one now you me or anyone else can walk in and buy one. All cars go out of production sooner or later. EVO doesn’t agree about the Comp Pack model, indeed they say it is up there with the E30 M3, though the Porsche electric steering is generally judged better.

I don’t find it a problem. There is more hype about the Porsche, but I find the M4CP a better drive overall than any 4 cyl Boxster or Cayman. If they discontinue the engine, too bad. Porsche discontinued successively their air cooled and their NA engines. All the more reason to have one I would have thought. The BMW straight six is one of the best petrol engines there is. I think that it is one to have, and i have been right in the past.

Ok, so the Porsche is more in demand. Now back to the question: Once the 200 are sold, what does someone who wants one of them do?

OK, Rawrr, I would really like a new 996GT3RS. Or a new 996 C4S, must be new mind, and it has to have the Powerkit engine, and sports seats, in Zenith Blue with black leather. The words 'too bad' come to mind. It's a problem, but it's not the same problem as the Porsche business model which is based solely on the power of the badge.

You can't buy a GT Porsche using PC software unless you can hack into the production schedule.

Perhaps, what he’s trying to say is, when the 200 were in production and say, BMW had 50 left to build, you and I could go to our local dealer and buy one. Where as if I went to any OPC now and said, I’d like to place a deposit on the next GT Porsche being released, they’d laugh me out!

Yes, but the trick they pulled with the Boxster back in 96 was the commonality of the parts, and that is still the case. The cost of design and putting into production, and running all the support operations, is amortised across the whole range. That is not counting the fact that development is slow and organic, not radical, which must save more money, and of course the massive contribution to development costs of using existing VW and Audi chassis, then sharing it with the likes of Bentley. So, as I said, the cost of producing a Turbo S and a boggo Cayman, which are both turbo engines, is actually not that different. I said £10k, maybe it is less.

I think the 991 GT2RS is still one of the most desirable road legal sports cars ever made.
As long as it does not have that awful red alcantara interior…….
Plain black interior and silver wheels please.
