LSD on the Kia?
That has always been a massive annoyance for me about powerful non-M BMW’s. I ended up retrofitting an LSD to my old E92 and it made a massive difference. It actually had some traction which was a bonus...I wonder if this will wake BMW up and make them realise that if they want to maintain the moniker of “ultimate driving machine” they need to stop penny pinching and deliberately compromising their cars.
I think if you considered a price some way lower, there would be plenty of takers.
Seems a shame that aside from the high asking price, this car will depreciate heavily in this UK market. The overall financial hit is likely to be high, for a car that's not really that much of a "must have" type machine.
Shame, as it seems like a decent effort.

Anyone care to explain to a simpleton like me the vast difference in the mpg figures given at the end of the article?
I’m surmising that the Kia has shorter gearing than the BMW as well as a little more lard?
Not that I’m looking to buy either but I’m pretty sure that the Kia figures are probably nearer to what I’d get in ‘real word’ driving rather than the optimistic BMW figures.
As a slight drop eviction from the topic, I’m surprised Kia hasn’t gone the route of Toyota and launched the Stinger as the vanguard of a new range of sports orientated vehicles as compared to the relatively non-PH range they otherwise peddle...

Suggested up thread that they the Kia was tested to a different set of standards

Kia is less likely to be driven by complete nobs.
yup. someone with a brain and ability to look at it on paper will probably go for the kia.i'm glad they are trying. st like this is too dominated by the likes of BMW, VW, Audi, merc etc..
i want more of the jap/korean brands to bring out more of their better value counterparts. much like how clarkson made the comparison with a mazda 6 MPS against a BMW 3 series.

Optimisation for the EU tests I would have though. Most likely BMW has someone on the inside that knows how to get the best out of them.I’m surmising that the Kia has shorter gearing than the BMW as well as a little more lard?

The Japanese brands have them they just do not market them here due to EU emissions legislation or the fact they just wouldn't sell. Both the Honda Legend and Toyota Camry have decent power plants. i'm glad they are trying. st like this is too dominated by the likes of BMW, VW, Audi, merc etc..

"we're mostly concerned with how these cars drive, so number of doors shouldn't matter too much."
"To that BMW, then. Crumbs is it fast. Power might officially be down on the Kia but its weight advantage is in the region of 150kg..."
BMW 440i Gran Coupe - 1723.197kg
Kia Stinger - 1780kg
Would a difference of only 60kg ish have made the BMW not seem quite so quick?

Lets face it the Kia is hardly aimed at the UK market, the fact they will sell it and in RHD is a bit of a surprise but its good manufacturers will still make stuff like this for the UK.
I genuinely don't understand why BMW interiors get praise, its the same in a 1 series to a 5 series almost, they aren't built great and offer absolutely crap ergonomics, they are seriously off the pace of the other main brands now.

That Kia is a handsome car and looks every bit the part sat next to the BMW, its just a shame the CO2 is so high and that no one will buy one.
I assume the Stinger is going to be available with a range of diesel engines as well? For the person who wants something different they could be the perfect addition for the company car fleet.
There is a Kia dealership in the village I live in and every time I walk past I always have a little nosey round a few of the cars and I was genuinely considering a Cee'd GT as a replacement for my Golf GTI. They even have some of the horrible stuff they churned out from the early 00's and the rate of progression is quite astonishing.
If they carry on at this rate then who knows, the next Stinger might just be the car to take on and beat the Germans.
