RE: Tesla Model S Shooting Brake

And ultimately, it’s a little unfair to compare a Model S to a Focus. More relevant is how it compares to a V8 S Class or XJ which is the likely car the owner didn’t buy, and instead bought the Model S.
I think the point the article was making is an EV isn't as Eco Friendly as people think they are. 406dogvan said:
All that 'recycling' noise doesn't take into account that most cars pass through many people's hands and end-up with someone who just dumps the car into the nearest scrapyard.
Tesla talk like they'll have "hands on" their cars for their whole lives - much as they'd like to do that, it isn't going to happen.
If that did happen, we'd see cars going into the ground MUCH sooner than they do now - no-one will want an 8-year-old Tesla which has "new" Tesla running costs so their recycling will be needed MUCH sooner anyway - I don't think halving the life of a car is particularly env. friendly is it(*)??
(*) Note that cars are living shorter-and-shorter lives already, mostly thanks to them being crammed with badly designed/made electronics, I'm not sure we need to hasten that at this point? It's not like fridges, which are MUCH simpler than they were - cars are WAY WAY most complex and people are getting WAY WAY less use from them...
Apart from they won’t be just thrown away as legally they can’t be. It’s impossible to actually just ‘scrap’ a car these days in the traditional sense of putting it in landfill or cubing it. Cars are now ‘disposed of’ which basically means that at its most basic, the disposer must deal with all hazardous materials (petrol tanks, oil, brake fluid etc for a normal car and LiOn batteries in a BEV or HEV) before anything else happens. Given most scrappies probably don’t want to deal with opening up 400v electrical systems, it will get subcontracted out to a company that does, and as such, it’ll get recycled.Tesla talk like they'll have "hands on" their cars for their whole lives - much as they'd like to do that, it isn't going to happen.

Ultimately, people can go on all day long about how they think that EVs are terribly bad for the environment, but the reality is, compared to a normal IC car of the same size and price, they’re nowhere near as bad, even given the current EU mix of grid power which includes Coal and Oil. BEVs are the future, and there’s basically nothing anyone can do to stop it (and to be brutally honest, I don’t really understand why you would).
Most peoples objections to Electric cars are largely based around emotional stuff like ‘yeah but they’re horrible, sound like milk floats and have no soul’. Whilst that’s actually fairly un true (there’s actually plenty to enjoy as a car enthusiast about a BEV if you just open your mind a bit), it also doesn’t matter the 99% of car use or customers. Does a Honda Jazz have a soul for instance? Would it not be a better car if it was 1/10th of the price to run, made even less noise and had no gears for Shiela to grind? At the other end of the scale, would an S Class not actually be a much better car if it had twice the torque, 20% more cabin space, 50% more refinement and cost 1/20th of the price to run? A BEV does refinement and performance so very much better than any V8 exec saloon (or more likely 3.5l Diesel) can ever hope.
The thing is, all the boring appliance like stuff becoming BEV means that there’s less pressure on Aston Martín, Ferrari and Porsche to stop making V12s and Flat 6s. Of course they’ll probably have to have some kind of KERS add on to make them ‘hybrid’ but I highly doubt in any of our lifetimes, you’ll stop being able to buy an IC engines drivers car. If anything, the existence of BEVs will distill the sports car to something more focussed and more relevant to people on here.
Ebrace change for once. You might actually like it

You want more glass area, a better roof-line and improved Labrador capacity - no problem:
You'll also get an interesting sideline for trips to the Crematorium.
Personally I'd have waited until the car was finished to present it properly, rather than half way through the cut and shut.
Ha Ha Ha, that's brilliant, and sooooo nice and quiet as it pulls up to the local crem. You'll also get an interesting sideline for trips to the Crematorium.

Hopefully the lock on the tailgate is good and strong, wouldn't want any hard acceleration (Ludicrous mode) to spit the stiff out of the back!
Looking forward to seeing the finished product (haven’t watched the video yet). I am of the opinion that the folk who buy a Tesla are not *that* fussed about saving the planet. I suspect they are more interested in the technology, pace and tax savings. Nissan Leaf buyers maybe....
Having had a plug in for over a year now, I am genuinely a convert to EV’s. Granted, I would never want to be without an ICE car for weekend fun, but for the daily grind: school run/commute/shopping trips etc an EV would be ideal. I don’t get the animosity towards EV’s, admittedly they aren’t perfect but they are a step in the right direction. At least the development of the tech will help towards the real future of automotive development... hydrogen fuel cell

At first glance I thought it was a hearse.
Interesting project.
I find hearse conversions FASCINATING - the massive glasswork and other body changes are really interesting to seeInteresting project.
Unless it's this one - obviously...
A Lynx Eventer style Tesla would be cool.
