Is the diff in the Megane a quaife atb type?
No it's a GKN torque-sensing helical type.

It does a brilliant job although some actually upgrade it to a more aggressive Drexler for track use.
I see. Cheers for that.

Some have taken their Megane project to quite an extreme... https://www.flickr.com/photos/128120793@N07/sets/7...

Good read as always Ben.

I should really do a readers ride, as my RS250 Cup has followed much the same route as yours.

Excellent work. I'm fortunate enough to own the 275 Cup-S with Ohlins and Akrapovic and it is a truly special thing. I mean, I've owned some very fast/special/rare cars but in its own way the Megane is as good as any of them.

Mine is going into Engine Dynamics in Essex for a remap this weekend. Excited.

I've never envisaged going back to FWD but this is one car that could potentially tempt me back on board, I'm guessing they are still fairly pricey though due to the cult following.

Great cars but they sound absolutely terrible, possibly the worst sounding performance car i've ever heard.

I heard one with an akra at a track day recently, it was that bad my dad asked me if there was something wrong with it.

It depends as what you class as "fairly pricey". I'd say that they're a real bargain for the money. I've seen them as cheap as 7.5k, but you probably wouldn't want one at that price. 10k is probably the going rate for something with low-ish miles and well looked after.

It's made more difficult though if you're wanting the specific and "perfect spec" one i.e. Cup pack (LSD etc), Visibility pack (Xenons etc), Recaro's, RS Monitor, Dual Zone Climate, ect. Then you could be heading into the 12k territory.

I'd honestly not be too bothered and just get one that's been cared for by the previous owner(s) and been to a well-renowned Renault specialist to have the major work done, like the cambelt done and etc. Anything else is a bonus for me.

I've a decatted rs250 with a modified silencer too, and there's two very distinct sounds it makes ....

1...A bit rough, and burbly, with a hint of dieselness thrown in, on anything less than 90% throttle.

2... A crazed Henry-hoover, sucking up gravel, while being thrown into the whining turbine of a jet engine as takes off into the blue yonder... 90%+ throttle!

Then I'm guessing there was. Mine sounds epic. I'm talking from the inside though - not heard it from the outside.

To be fair, anything much over shed money is pricey to me these days frown Considering that any car of its age is going to start needing work (especially a Renault) means it's not a cheap ownership proposition for me anyway... Just the way things are nowadays though, agree, on the grand scheme of things, probably not THAT expensive.

Modern Renaults are reliable cars. Its the older ones that seem to have some problems.

Absolutely love that colour, and was fortunate enough to drive the press car for our feature against the CTR with Dan. What a day!

Another mapper with a good reputation there. Let me know how it goes!

In the 15,000 miles I covered in my 182 & 172, other than routine maintenance, the only things that went wrong were a failed rear damper that cost me £80 and a set of HT leads that were £20. Not bad for a 10 year old car!

They've held their value remarkably well - what were they new (after Renault discount)? I'm sure the run out 275 Cup-S could be had for under £20k

Yes, and that was even with quite a few options !
