Totally agree.

Electric HGV's and White vans everywhere should be the main focus.

What a lot of people are forgetting here is that the sustainable element and carbon neutral comments come directly from the power source.
Its very much easier to capture and convert Co2 directly at source in a power plant for a single distribution to many EV cars/homes. the end source isn't the issue here as no transportation is required or refinery/delivery en route plus the burn cycle and capture at every exhaust pipe.

I'm pretty sure if my memory serves me correct that 85>% of Co2 is captured and converted at source in power stations that are reliant on fossil fuels.

What does matter is the environmental effect on Lithium production/manufacturing and recycling, that still has a negative impact long term.

Don't get me wrong, I have petrol running through my veins and run a daily 650Bhp car, in addition a small part of my business is to provide certain elements to Formula E for the crowd in the form of viewing screens, but I find it very dull and boring without the sounds and smells associated.

I guess this is mainly because Me, like you have grown up with that as a base line for motor-sport, if we were heading from the past where electric was the norm, then IC engines came in to fashion I'm sure we would have the same outlook, err the smell and the sound pollution, horrid.

Embrace what we have, I for one wont be giving up my petrol car without a fight anytime soon, but also an EV tesla do appeal to me for a daily commute vehicle bar the cost of entry.

Luddites. Dinosaurs. Yeah, you lot, you fkers.

People bhed and moaned, and yet diesels which sound comparatively like crap, have smashed it at endurance racing. And guess what, you tight arses couldn't get enough of them to drive as road cars either, up until diesel-gate.

Well guess what. EVs are the same. They sound like st as race cars, but translate well to the road. And they're still relatively immature as compared to the ICE which has had the lions share of development funding during the last 100 years or so.

Spare me your outrage. You lot represent about 0.0000001% of the planet, and no one gives a fk what you think.

Erm, the only reason diesels were so competitive at Le Mans and the WEC was because the rules were biased to make them so, as it was felt for marketing reasons that they needed to be.

Oh, and I suspect most people on here that don't do big miles DON'T have diesel cars.

...so why not get back in your box and come back when you're not drunk, eh?

I feel sorry for any touring car drivers who have to take the gig. They don't stand a chance if the Teslas are still programmed to not punt other cars out the way.

I can't imagine it's going to be all that interesting to watch. It won't attract typical motorsport fans and the sort of people who have a strong interest in EVs are possibly not the sort of people who would suddenly start watching them race. But I think the idea with this sort of motorsport is to broadcast it to VR headsets in due course isn't it?

It'll be very interesting to see how the batteries deliver in a racing environment. I think that's going to be the most beneficial information gleaned.

There are electric cars. You cant really race EVs against ICE no way you can make the rules fair between them.

So why not race EVs against EVs?

I'm not convinced the model s is the right car to do it but large saloon racing is a pretty standard staple in motor racing.

The reality is, much like Formula E, the charging power would be provided by a load of industrial mobile Diesel generators powered by 'bio fuel'.

As a driver, series like this and E-Trophy are a great potential sponsorship opportunity for companies that haven't previously been able to justify sponsoring motor racing. But I think we're a way off it being genuinely sustainable given the energy required to charge and ship the cars....

Are they going to pipe fake noise through the public address systems at the tracks?

Maybe we could give spectators hand controllers and driverless vehicles. Hold on a minute there’s a name for that Scale something!

"Sustainable" - Please fk off with such language. How is building a new car, using all those materials, charging it, using all that electricity, and then racing it, which means going round in circles for no discernible reason, ever be "sustainable". Please, fk off, and I mean right off, not just a bit, properly off.
The man has a point! laughlaughlaughlaugh
He certainly does. Sustainable would not building these EVs that nobody wants in the first place.

As so many have already said, this is one st idea. It goes against everything that motorsport stands for, i.e. the excitement, the emotion, the engagement of all senses (noise, smell, and vibration included). This will be just boring, just like formula E. Say what you will about ICE motorsports, that they are "dinosaurs", "unsustainable" etc, but ICE motorsport is just better. Fact.

The only sensible form of electric motosport would be an efficiency trial, not dissimilar to the Shell eco marathon, but how many people will watch it?

Rallying would probably be marginally better than going round in circles, whining incessantly. Most blokes go to motorsport events to get away from that for a few hours.

The guy clearly does "know nothing about Motorsport". The future of motoring may well be electric but that doesn't mean it's happening anytime soon.

What demand exactly? Just over 2000 Model S on UK roads last time I looked.

I'm told that electric cars won't be competing at Curborough anytime soon. The costs in upgrading the track and training marshalls is huge.

And this is exactly why Formula E is such a flop, and the prospect of "sustainable" Tesla racing is (rightly) getting such a rough time here on PH. Motorsport enthusiasts are not interested in economy, and economy is the main USP of an EV. People who want economy don't go to racetracks, they go to garden centres, and the supermarket, and treat cars as appliances, they just want the cheapest thing from A to B. Nissan leafs, Teslas, whatever, I am sure they're sensible transport for someone, but "sustainable" and "motorsport" just do not go together. This article is nonsense.

I'm probably not making many friends by saying this, but the quantity and quality of features on PH lately has properly gone down the bog. Supercar spotting, links to Petrolicious content, nonsense like this feature, etc - it seems I'm only here for Breadvan's BL addiction, spoon chat and Shed's ramblings. Eeeeh, I remember when all this were pixels as far as the eye can see, now it's PCP this, EV that...
I tried to get this point across on a previous EV post.... your second paragraph is pretty much what I got in response. Tied in with pure ignorance. Considering killing my account as every time I come back it gets worse. (queue the 'you will not be missed' comments)

So would you prefer to go and watch an electric car race to a ICE-powered car race then? Do you think it's going to be as good an experience?

Formula E is a joke... I remember watching (on TV) one of the first races thinking.. "ok lets see what this is all about then".
I watched the start where there was only one small grandstand for spectators, the cars set off and I thought "ok no noise and no noticeable high speed because batteries", the cars went round the track whereby there were no other spectators at all, and then I fell about laughing when the cars all came in to the pits and the drivers jumped out and jumped in to another car !

I don't think there will be much interest from current generation motorsport enthusiasts that have ever experienced IC-Engine race cars, when it comes to electric racing.
Its going to take a new type of generational mind set to come close to enjoy watching electric racing - I'm definitely not one of them.

I guess if the young generations are told that its batteries or nothing else then there will be some that form an attraction to it I guess (as in no other choice) - but I can't see electric racing drawing in the crowds like IC-Engine racing does. There is a huge amount of character and drama missing when all you have is a battery.

There does seem to be a very simplistic level of thinking that if you're keen on EVs you must think this type of EV racing is brilliant and conversely that if you happen to think this type of EV racing is crap then you must be anti EVs.

Ironically, that's the more Luddite mindset on display. rofl

I really like the idea of commercially viable EVs but I can't imagine if ever be interested in watching them race in the guise that is being promoted currently. Formula E is a dire format of obscured, nasty race tracks attended mostly by people who live locally and have been given free tickets. I wouldn't go to one again. They are actually depressing displays of corporate desperateness where even those earning their living from it will let slip that it's all a bit crap when no one else is in earshot. But I'd be more than happy to take an EV minicab too and from events or use an EV car.

Some people are easily pleased.... EV's are not the same, they have no sound or smell, they have less engagement for the driver. What a dire situation PH is in seriously, sad times.
