Vehicles involved in serious crime
Discussion
What actually happens to vehicles used in serious crime?
Levi Bellfield, the fat nonce used a variety of cars in his crimes. A bit of research to find out what was linked to what crime unearthed these pictures
Toyota Previa to run over Kate Sheedy
Ford Courier
Daewoo Nexia that was supposedly linked to Milly Dowler
Mark Bridger , another useless scum to this society
Used this Land Rover Discovery
2017 Westminister attacks
Hyundai Tuscon
7 July 2005 bombings
Jermaine Lindsay - Fiat Brava
2005 Nissan Micra
There’s lots more that I have to trawl for...
My question is - what happens to the cars involved?
This is not to detract from the shocking and tragic crimes involved - everyone except the killers deserve to rest in peace.

I've no idea about the vehicle you mentioned in your OP, but I do recall that about 8-10 years ago the Range Rover that the 'Essex Boys' were shot in was sold on eBay.
F424 NPE. That Range Rover has probably the murkiest history of them all, with however many supposed sightings and appearances it put in over the years. A lot of them have been disputed but there's definitely a picture of that plate getting a speeding ticket from around 2004 or so as well.If I had to guess, the cars either end up in police storage for the rest of time or are crushed. I have no proof of that and the fact people still discuss where the Range Rover from the aforementioned Rettendon murders got to would seem contrary, but it seems the most likely fate.

Ah yes the infamous Rettendon murders.Unfortunately far too gruesome/NSFW to post on here yet the most well known vehicle..
Reminded me of two more signifcant vehicles
Cumbria shootings - Citroen Xsara Picasso
Disappearance of Madeleine McCann
- Renault Scenic
Police report:
Unidentified vehicle involving a suspect of the investigation
^^ can someone identify the car above?

F424 NPE comes up as untaxed and un MOT’dIf I had to guess, the cars either end up in police storage for the rest of time or are crushed. Tax : 01 November 2009
MOT: 24 July 2009
Just noticed that all of Bellfield’s cars had their tax expired on 01 March 2004 which suggests that they were seized by Police on or before this date.
Only exceptions are the Fiat Punto convertible he was infamously photographed in and the Daewoo Nexia used allegedly to lure Milly Dowler (which has vanished without a trace - I could only find a CCTV image , and a picture of it parked with the VRN redacted and no police reports or seizure photographs).

Not quite of the same caliber as the examples here, but this is my personal experience of having a vehicle used in a serious crime.
My car was stolen in 2009, 3 days later it was used as a getaway car in an armed robbery in which a night security manager died. The car was recovered a few days later parked up, it's amazing it wasn't burnt out. The Police identified it as it was on fake plates which didn't match the tax disc. It first went to forensics, it spent a few weeks there, they recovered finger prints of known criminals and made a number of arrests based on this. The car was then passed to an independent secure storage company where it remained for almost 14 months until the trial was complete. There was no option of getting it back before this as it was considered a significant piece of evidence. I got to see the car once in this time in order to identify anything that had changed since I last saw it, I had to give at least 3 separate statements mainly relating to items in the vehicle or it's condition. As soon as the trial was over the car was released, I still own it.

Wow, what happened re. Insurance - did they put you in a hire car for the interim period? My car was stolen in 2009, 3 days later it was used as a getaway car in an armed robbery in which a night security manager died. Wonder how they managed to get the bits of brain out of it?
Or the stench of dead bodies.Shudder
How that was ever cleaned properly, I do not know.
How or why beggars belief.

The insurers wanted to inspect the car to make a decision, and didn't seem to understand why they couldn't. The damage was minimal, but they told me it would be written off even if it just needed 2 locks replaced. In the end they refunded 2/3 of the policy and paid out £150 as a good will gesture, there is no claim against the car or myself. I had another vehicle so it wasn't a major problem being without the car.The Rettendon Range Rover was rumoured to have been completely stripped of all of its interior. Somebody piped up and claimed to have owned it, however I understand the door hinges were different which discredited that it was the original car.
I'd like to think it got scrapped - however would be a nasty shock for anyone owning a 87-88 Range Rover to find out it was theres...
