What the list does show is that the BM times are almost total nonsense.

Unless we are all happy that an Evo VIII is quicker than a McLaren F1?!
It may well be at Tsukuba, the two straights are both pretty short so the F1 doesn't really have a chance to stretch is power advantage.
The McLaren was an unresolved mess re handling right from the go, by modern standards it's Stone Age. Very difficult to drive round a circuit, also non power assisted steering, and un servoed brakes. Great engine though.

The panels are not pop riveted on. The gearbox is the same box on both ph1 and ph2 - albeit the ratios and the shifter throw length where changed. And Renault didn't build the ph2 in house because of the handling. The ph2 was still developed by the same team at TWR who developed the ph1. If TWR had of had enough time there would of likely only ever been the 1 variant of car.

Never driven a skyline, but they are a totally different beast to the Clio for sure. I imagine the Skyline is a lot easier to drive at 9/10ths!

There were also at least 20 times more Skylines produced than there are Clios!
If you look inside the front door shuts you can see a rivet type fixing I'm sure, the phase 2 had bonded on panels. Gearboxes are dodgy not because they are different but because Renault couldn't provide the proper oil to go in them, hence the early cars suffered lots of failures. Phase 2 built at Dieppe Alpine factory and the quality is far better. I didn't say they built the Phase 2 in house just because of the handling, the whole car was a hash, poorly built, and terrible dynamics. I would still have had one when they were under 10k but so many better cars around for the £20k plus they now cost.

Best Motoring was great entertainment, even if they were biased in the battles.
The f40 -f50 video was good. The f50 was running a decat ms racing exhaust and sounded unreal.
Yeah i remember that one well. Even the other drivers were distracted by it.

The type-R battles was pretty heated too.

Was going to say... the Mac wasn't exactly known for being a track car, despite it's success in racing.
