A 540i would be the one I'd like to have but I doubt I'd be able to afford to insure one or run it everyday!
That looks lovely and probably worth more than triple what you paid for it. Genuine M Parallels sell for over £600 and to have one in a manual is pretty rare. Similar one sold on eBay today for just under £4k.

A 530i is probably the better all-round package to run as a daily.

Good E39s are going up in value.

A decent, well-kept and clean E39 530i Sport will be the equivalent of the E28 M535i / E34 535i Sport in a few years time.

I had one, it was a base model but went ok, would have kept it if my Dr hadn’t diagnosed terminal boredom. It was crap on fuel as well, I’m talking low 20’s mpg
seems low mpg, I can get 24+ out of the M5 version and even over all conditins an average of over 19mpg, so that doesn't seem very much...

How do the E60 and F10 compare? Anyone owned an E39 and one of them? An LCI E60 or F10 would both be contenders for my next car, but I would hate to be disappointed. Although arguably anything that doesn't rust would be a bonus...
I know a number of people who have moved from e39 to E60 or F10 (usually M5s) and in all cases the newer car is def. considered:
- more modern
- better entertainment system
- better technology
- better engine

if they had to choose between them, the more modern car would win as a daily driver, but in every case - emotionally, the e39 would win hands down - and quite a few of them have gone back to the e39 - last of the analogue greats from BMW

Maybe I'm nuts, but I think that looks good. My E46 had a dark interior (black roof, dark grey alcantara, black cloth with silver dots, something like that), but it had a light-coloured wood trim very much like this one and it really helped brighten things up a bit. And I think I like the orange-with-black-dots upholstery a lot more than the one I had. Even if the colour doesn't quite match the wood smile - it's certainly a step up from your typical black on black plus black with more black.

(Obviously there's no shortage of black in this car, but there's nothing wrong with it as a contrasting colour, as seen here. It's only a problem when it dominates and you end up with the Batman look.)

My old 530i. Lovely car and very sensible miles when I sold it at around 101,000 approx. 18 months ago. I actually contacted the guy six months later with a view to buying it back but after speaking with him and hearing how pleased he was with it I didn't even bother asking. It had some nice features including the very rare options of S EDC (Electronic Damper Control) plus M Audio
I saw that when you had it for sale, was one of the best I found if memory serves. Should've bought it frown

I went from a '99 E39 528i (leather, manual) to a '53 E60 530i (leather, manual). In some aspects, the E60 is better (lower wind noise, 6 speed 'box) but in others it's worse (interior styling, quality of interior plastics, std equipment: no interior boot relese, no glovebox torch, no temp gauge, no dual ventilation).
Overall I'd probably prefer an E30 530i Sport than an E60 but I bought an E39 M5 to compensate.

Yep, you should have jumped in. She only went for approx. £2k which was a bargain at the time and looks a positive steal now. I think the fact that she is an SE didn't help but to my eyes they've aged more gently than the Sport models particularly with style 32 or 37 alloys
