Googled about cyclists and found this :--

Miscellaneous 'must nots' include

As Boris Johnson discovered, giving your wife a backie on your bicycle is a criminal offence.

Had to think about that, a backie biggrin

Because they “suddenly stop working at 12kph” or because they make you feel so safe that you and everyone around you becomes even more reckless?
Given the attitude of a lot of drivers - yourself apparently included - both.

I've lost count of the number of people who smugly tell me that I should be loading my MR2 onto the trailer backwards.

Fact is the trailer I use is a fair bit longer than the car and with the car on forwards and positioned correctly the nose weight on the trailer is pretty much spot on.

Just googling and found this re cycling on pavements.

In Scotland the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 gives everybody the right to non motorised access to most land in Scotland, including roads, tracks, and paths. So, apart from trampling over gardens or disturbing working farm-yards, you can walk, ride your bike, or ride a horse on any path, road or field margin.

Interesting I thought.

I'm asking because

is a personal pet peeve of mine and it wasn't mentioned. Why are most drivers struggling to comprehend that peds who started crossing always have priority over traffic turning into the street they cross. Other civilised countries seem to have no problem getting it. Or is it just a London ting?
This winds me up too! I would never do what that woman is doing - only because I don’t want to have a gravestone engraved with, “died defending his right of way”
Easy mistake to make, the Kinks even wrote a song about it called Lola.

Hate to break it to you but that is a geeza.

Well I guess that just highlights the problem. You wouldn't turn right if there was a car coming towards you, you'd wait for them to clear off and then turn. Same with cyclists, you wouldn't turn left if there was a cyclist approaching from your left and you were to cut them up. Yet with pedestrians, somehow it's ok to act like a tt.

As the HC says "Watch out for pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning. If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way", seems reasonable if they have STARTED to cross the road, they have priority. You can't hardly carry on and run them down.

They should bloody check first for oncoming traffic though.

the reflective strip is too high and may make you feel safer than you are
Where are the reflective pedals / anklets spoke reflectors?
you forget that the fact that he is far too close to the kerb so he's about to steer into the kerb, fall off and be run over and killed by a 44-tonne truck. helmet won't help him too much. laugh

the offence is carrying more than one person on a bike unless it is made or adapted to carry more than one person.

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/secti...

so giving a backie on a bike with a front-mounted child seat isn't necessarily an offence.

Of course they should check for oncoming traffic, but the oncoming traffic usually assumes they have absolute right of way regardless of how far they were from the junction, many times not even in the view of a pedestrian.

Every time I go to Western part of mainland especially the Netherlands or Germany I'm blown away how nobody proactively aims for pedestrians. They simply let them cross. Not only that they let them cross even if they haven't started to cross the road but it's clear that they are about to.

Eastern Europe on the other hand, it feels like home most of the times, except traffic drives on the right.

Sidelights are really for when the car is parked, not while its moving. Which is why on the continent in many countries they are called "parking lights".
My sidelights are my DRLs so I have no choice but to drive around with them on all the time. I thought that was pretty common now (I have a 2 year old Skoda)

Always though side lights were to indicate the width of a vehicle, hence some old land rovers had headlights in the grill.
