A proper homologation special that looked the part too. And people complain about the price......

Admittedly looking at the pics, the interior could have done with a bit more Evo, but the outside makes up for it. Beats all the 12mm wider track nonsense the sports models usually get.

Only ever seen 1 on the road, could have done with sponsor decals all over it.

Would honestly rather have one of these than an Urus, or any other faux off-roader. I have no need for one, but they're just so unusual and idiosyncratic that having a modern equivilant would be frankly dull.

That is, of course, not to say that the modern equivilants aren't lovely cars.

I had one of these back in 2002 / 2004. Was a cool looking truck for the time but wasn't really that impressed with the speed. Ive had many Pajero / Shoguns and the build quality wasn't better than those. Mine was an auto and these suffer from slipping and not engaging 3/4 properly. ITs a tiptronic box.. A certain type of g/b fluid needs to be used or all hell break loose.

Fuel wise, well it rank like a pig, which I didn't mind and know, but if it was fast, would of been acceptable but it wasnt. I only had it a year or so then traded it in on a 1996 Twin Turbo Supra, which I keep for over 15 years. A far better car.

I often keep a retro eye on this Evos and nearly all have 60 miles ? Really ? I remember selling my old truck for sale and in 7 years since I sold it it had lost over 30K miles. Most are now clocked so beware.

Currently have a Mercedes AMG Ml55 which is a far better truck than an Evo and only cost me £4K, Buttons compared to an Evo.

For £15K I would rather go for a Ml63.

I was very Close to buying one 2 months back, I love the looks the sound and the Heritage.

However I could get past the economy vs performance Balance was poor, price was too high and some parts (especailly enything regarding this cars unique rear suspension - the biggest mechanical change from the standard car I belive) are like rocking horse dodo to get hold of hence priced accordingly.

Still, very cool car, like the Metro 6R4, born to win races not beauty contests!!

I actually have one of these at the moment - I bought her a couple of years ago.

At the risk of being ostracised on here, I should admit that I sold my Tuscan to do so. Honestly speaking (and please don't hate me here) for me it was one of the best car decisions I have made, even with the value of TVRs seemingly ever climbing since.

In terms of performance, yes it will be outgunned by a Cayenne etc on tarmac, but that is missing the point of what the car is all about. Many years ago I was competing on a rally through South America in a Landcruiser Amazon. The Cayenne had just come out and a couple of the guys in our class has prepared theirs to race. I particularly remember one of the stages being incredibly rough and the link section after being even worse. We got to the overnight stop about 45 minutes before any other car in the field, where we were met by the crew of the other Lancruiser waiting patiently in the bar! The Porsches had suffered something like 8 stops between them to fix breakages or punctures and pretty much all of the other cars had suffered some sort of similar issue.

Although I loved the Landcruiser, I have often talked with my co-driver (who has also just bought a Pajevo) about how good it would be to have done that rally in the Mistubishi. It would have simply decimated everything. It is not the power that always astonishes me (although to me the performance does feel absolutely hilarious for a full-on 4x4), but rather the suspension. The ride is harsh, but try taking one of these over a 'surprise' crest, or watch your passenger brace themselves as you approach a fast corner (expecting to tip over) and you will understand what I mean.

In the UK of course, very few of these will get used offroad - mine certainly won't be seeing any mud any time soon. But the main reason I personally love it is that it is just really good fun. Fast, sporty SUVs like the Urus all serve a serious purpose. However, the Pajevo is something different; a genuine 4x4 that will have you grinning ear to ear as it puts you into (and out of) all sorts of angles at the slightest encouragement. And they sound fantastic.

The only major word of warning I would give is that parts are not cheap. So much of the car is completely bespoke, including under the hood. I shudder at the thought of breaking something and probably don't use it as much as I should as a result.

I remember the local drug dealer had one of these back about 15 odd years ago. The rumour was that he put the 'merchandise' in behind the plastic surround of the front grill which separateed the grill from the front lights. Apparantly it was easy to take off and hollow. Im fairly sure there were easier places to hide it. Interesting jeep though. Id say parts would be difficult to source unless you have a contact in japan.

There were quite a few of these in New Zealand a few years back , (10) they were around £ 6000 back then in sterling ,
quite cool , but was surprised they were not so fast ..around mid 8's to 60 mph ?
guess it was fast then and they could be made to go a lot faster ..

You're absolutely right as a big Paris Dakar fan and seeing these SUV's flying over the dunes I just had to buy one so I did. I've actually collected 12 scale model's of them in Paris Dakar livery (sad I know) here is one of my many photos of the cars in the event.

If I remember these were meant to be 280 bhp, but going through the gearbox / transfer a lot was wasted.

Was a bouncing ride and although fun for a month, soon became boring as it wasn't fast.

It's a NA engine so you would need to turbo / SC it. Not much gains could be made unless you really spend some cash,

The gearbox was a known issue, I discovered this after I brought it. You must use a certain Mitsubishi oil or it will accelerate the wear on the clutch plates. My own wasn't changing up very well from 3 to4 and 4,to 5. I had to knock it over into tiptronic mode and do that manually. Finding a 2rd box was hard and no one would rebuild it due to little knowledge.

I used the truck as a daily runner, Worthing, Sussex, to Wallington, Surrey 110miles a day. Truck was on about 21K miles and when I sold it had done 60K+.

I think the prices now are stupid and are just on the Evo 5/6 shirt tails. I originally ordered a Evo 5 from Japan but that was crushed on the boat, so went a brought a M3 Evo convertible as I just couldn't wait any longer. I put an order on the new E46 M3 but when I was ready to spec the dealer told me it would be my Evo + 20K. No way so I went out a brought this Evo. £16500.

WAs a young man at the time, remember my dad telling me to keep my money...... 20 years later I now fully understand the term wise head on young shoulders as I wish I had saved my cash. :-)

I agree, nowadays for the sort of money being asked for this SUV you could buy a decent Cayenne Turbo S, but back in the day they were unique.
