I'm glad PH posted this article. The F40 is my dream car and I will own one in the future.

I wish there was more meat and detail in this article though. No mention of how much the fuel tanks cost to replace?

My GT and a mate's F40 after a spirited drive through France. The sound of the F40 was sublime through the tunnels. smile

I have forwarded this article to someone who really wants one and is in the lucky position to have the means to do so, he currently uses an Aventador S as a daily, so someone might get some useful info from it smile

Saw one in the wild near Newmarket on the A14 last year.

Smaller than I expected, but the shape remained stunning compared to virtually anything else I have ever seen on the road.It looked like it had escaped from the race track!

What I'd really like is an F40 with an F50 motor.

Also a good idea to check all the tyres are matching, if they don’t, it might be that the owner has skimped on servicing

I hear lots of owners are trying Falken FK453’s as a cheaper alternative to the OEM tyres. Any opinions?

Pistonheader JamieB purchased one at a very reasonable price and ran it as his daily in London for a while. He sold it at a very healthy profit. .

I'll bet most F40's have their tanks changed more often than their tyres! Mine came with barely used 10 year old PZeros that were like bakelite.

I'm launching 4 businesses specifically with a goal of purchasing an F40 in a few years. Was on a poster in my bedroom growing up. Stunning car ,not really worth the cash but what is? I wonder which way prices will go it's not limited edition and most are cosseted and many owners sell on after getting bored so not good enough to hoard as owners likely realise it's just a car or perhaps they sold at a profit they are happy with as prices have risen?

1100kg. That's less than that VW Polo you are getting moist about......

Progress. Not.

Never liked the F40 that much BTW
are you lamenting the fact that a polo weighs more than this?
Seems to be, limited run, million quid 80s carbon supercar with no safety kit or luxury items vs 20 grand steel bodied hatchback with everything you could need, a really pertinent comparison.

A 1989 Polo g40 is a more relevant comparison at 840 kilos, half a tonne heavier the new one is but everything has moved up, the Up Gt is under a tonne, so given all the improvements in safety and kit, maybe things aren't so bad, though 1359 kilos does seem pretty heavy.

Anyway, don't really get Ferraris, like to see them but a bit too much of a show pony for me usually but the F40, I make an exception for.

You're not really a supercar collector unless you have one of these.

The F40 has been my poster car since it came out... for a while (thanks to a bit of luck job wise) one even seemed vaguely achievable.
Sadly the rise in the last few years up to nearly 7 figures means that this, the best of drivers cars, will remain out of my reach forever.

That fact makes me very sad.

I know there are some owners on this site... please don't just leave them in the garage, get them out, use them, enjoy them, and let those of us who can only dream have that experience of following an F40 at full chat through a tunnel !

What a great fun article. Odd that so many on a motoring forum seem so miserable about it.
You took the words out of my mouth.

We all have zero chance of buying one (unless in 1/18 format) but it doesn't mean we can't have a little Friday fun!

Still my fave Ferrari. Buying guide for the F355 next week please?
