After 36months of ownership the car has been pretty bullet proof. One headlamp and a set of tyres. Have no complaints! Stratus grey coupe still gets attention. Star alloys a rarity.
Car will be up for sale very soon as it’s time for a change..

The obvious question; what will you choose to replace it?

Both cars are massively flawed though, hydraulic steering doesn't really improve the Z4M, because it's still held back by a piss poor chassis and a terrible ride even on normal tyres.
Poor ride on run flats yes but a flawed car with a poor chassis. Nonsense

I've not driven the 3.0si in fairness so I presume that's okay then, the Z4M does have a piss poor chassis though.

yes I had one to try for a day last time I was looking to buy a sports car; having driven an SLK350 a few days earlier I genuinely felt the Mercedes was a far better drivers' car. It's a shame because teh Z4M shows what a decent set of dampers and a proper steering rack can do with the platform. To this day I've wondered whether BMW intentionally hobbled the non-M car to protect the M.
Having had a 350slk for 2 years and changing it for the z4c I would say the Z4 is a better drivers car. It’s maybe not as quick in a straight line as the slk but in my opinion the Z4 is a better car to drive

Interested to know why you think that. It’s very stiff and well planted I think. Coming from a 350 slk I prefer the bmw

It just didn't feel very resolved to me and I didn't find it very accomplished, the overall ride and feel of it just wasn't right to me. When you compare it to the M3 the M3 is in another league...but the Z4 is meant to be a sports car so maybe my expectations were just too high for it.

Yes and that could be it, I just wonder why they can make the M3 handle and ride really well but balls up the Z4, when by rights the Z4 should wipe the floor with the M3 because its the more sporting car in theory.

Rear springs appear to be a service item on the Z4MC.
My coupe has snapped 4 in it's 35k life.

Currently on the look out for one of these preferably in sport spec with reasonable miles.

I've never driven an E46 M3 but then my Z4 Coupe doesn't have the boot floor falling out of it, so it works for me! laugh

But I'm obviously somewhat biased!

I remember they reckoned the 3-litre was a better all rounder for being a bit softer than the M-version

Back to a Lotus Exige. The Z4 was a gap filler.

That is such a good question, hence me keeping mine longer than I normally would a daily driver.

I don't think I'd get into an Exige and would it cope so admirably as a daily? might be a little too raw.

For me when I sell mine is a couple of years and move on to something new I’d say a cayman S is my likely candidate
