It does sound really nasty. You can basically use that middle way as a drag strip during less busy hours. By the sounds of the report the accident happened in the underpass. I used to drive on this road frequently and I think you’d struggle to do any damage on that bit of the road unless you were fking about. Eh enough speculation we shall see what comes out about it later on.

Car 3 - four ejected, three dead, one critical.

I am hoping that this is a tragic accident and not due to any boy racers.

Are there any images of the vehicles involved? Just that we narrowly missed a vehicle last night near there that was on the wrong side of the dual carriageway, no,lights, aiming at oncoming traffic.

I use this road frequently. I was there yesterday, picking up my son from Aston University at 7pm.
It's not a brilliant road and I'll seen a few drivers taking the left hand slip road, only to change their minds, and swerve right, back into the underpass!
There is extensive CCTV there so I hope that will help the investigation.
It's also commonly known for locals to race down the underpass. I think, looking at the pictures on the news, that speed may be a big factor.

Is that a standard issue taxi for that area?

I drove down the M6/M5 last night, it was fairly deserted, what was very noticeable was the number of totally st drivers on fking Taxi plates. Eg Pulling out from slipway straight to lane 3 on a deserted motorway, middle lane hogging at 45mph, I did wonder who at Birmingham council is responsible for dishing out these licences as obviously there is no driving test involved! Is his name Mr Kelloggs by any chance?


The reason I ask? yes one of the st drivers was in a Taxi "just like the very one in the pics" shortly before this time, the M5 interchange is in this vicinity.

I'll also add the no seatbelts issue that is utterly rife in this area, my bet is the no seatbelt demographics fits perfectly with the fatalities & those who were ejected. I am aware Taxi drivers have legal exemptions.

If anyone wonders what I'm about: Stand outside any large factory in the area at shift change about 80% of all drivers arriving to work will not be wearing one! I can assure you those that do wear a seatbelt are in a MINORITY at certain times of the day. Would you buy a product built by those who don't care???

As posted above, you might want to pass that info to the police, it might be nothing to do with the crash, however, any small detail can help and if the cab was at fault and can be traced back through the evening via CCTV then it may help build a picture.
Looking at those pictures I think it’s hard to say anything much, clearly though speed was involved if 4 people are being ejected from cars and 4 cars appear to have had to take late evasive action.
I don’t know that area but would it be right that cars are exiting the tunnel at high speed or is it the run up to the tunnel? I wonder if the gradient change and the weather had some part to play?
What a horrible thing to happen so close to Xmas, it’s a tragedy anytime of year but getting that knock on the door at this time of year must be truly awful for families.

Incredibly distressing news, particularly a week before Christmas.

I absolutely hate getting taxis over the festive period. On Thursday we were getting a minibus up to Moor Alerton golf club and the driver when straight through a red light on a busy roundabout just off the M62. Everyone in the bus saw it except the driver.

Car 1 = 2 injured.
Car 2 = 3 dead (taxi).
Car 3 = 3 dead + 1 seriously injured (all ejected from car).

Cars 4, 5 and 6 (followup crashes) = 2 minor injuries.
