Not really sure I get this car.
If I didn't need the rear seat space, £85k buys rather a lot from the Cayman section of the Porsche showroom.
Two I believe - but only just - or a Cayman & a Boxster.

I have read this three times now and it still does not make much sense.

Aside from the obvious Troy Queefery, I still cant tell if he/she likes the car or not?

I assume the T model has a role in the 911 line up but I am no wiser after reading the article than I was before I started.

Sorry to be harsh, but did the person who wrote this get paid? Frankly, its bobbins.
I really find it very difficult to understand 90% of this article

Front discs look too small in those wheels..

Hard to read, even after two coffees.

That article was awful to read and I don't get the car either

Lets say that I want a 911, why buy this one?
I’m thinking that the T would make more sense in a few years as an used buy, particularly if the person who specs it new leaves the Sat Nav in & puts rear seats in - just not sure who will buy a new one though. But 968 Club Sports were relatively unloved in the used market for a long time & look what happened to their prices & they sold in small numbers too.

If this is supposed to be an entry point of sorts to the 991 range - a basic 991 in its purest form - if the price was say £75k, would it start to make more sense?

But clearly that was never going to happen, and for (in Porsche terms) a modest extra outlay, the S and GTS make far more sense.

A missed opportunity really which is a shame.

Why not by a second hand 911 and reduce the equipment and make your own perfect car? Really don’t understand this

Amazing marketing job by Porsche.

read this in your best german accent for full effect.

"Hey Hans! The 992 comes out soon, and we have all these 991.2 body shells and standard Carrera 370hp engines left over as nobody bought the base car"

"Don't worry Andreas, I have an idea! We will get them to make a snazzy interior like the GTS but we will also fit those silly door pulls that we have left over from the Spyder, then we will fit a few different cogs in the gearbox and put a letter T on the back and charge several thousand more for it. Oh and i know, to make it sound very special we will remove the rear seats and PCM but still charge for them. If any one gets funny about paying for them we will give it to them for free!"

"Hans you are a genius, they will be fighting over them at the dealers doors. A standard Carrera that nobody wanted is the new hot thing, hahahaha."

"Do you know what Andreas? Just to mess with their heads, lets only give them the rubbish black brakes as well so they have to buy the PCCB's to make it look half tidy"

Thanks Porsche.

yeah agree with the others, awful writing again from PH... not as bad as that R8 article but getting there...

i see the photography and/or publishing skills have gone the same way! i bet driving a car with ceramic brakes on the offside and steels on the nearside made it interesting, i'm surprised the author didn't comment on that rolleyes also curious that it appears to have single 918 bucket seat that didn't get mentioned.

Ah, I see the Key Stage 1 readers have arrived. What, precisely, is so difficult to read in this article? There are no absurd metaphors, no extended extemporisations or passages of unquenchably self-indulgent magniloquence. We could, if you prefer, go back to the Janet and John scratching of Trent, where neither grammatical or factual accuracy was required.

As much as I want to love this car, I think you’d be mad not to buy a GTS.
If you mean 911 GTS, then try spec'ing a GTS for anything like the price of a T. It ain't gonna happen.
Isn’t the base price £10k apart?
Yes but that’s still 12% increase over the T. Plus the spec’d prices of both cars (that a regular person will actually buy) will widen the gap even further.
OK, so forgetting what options you think people would add, I still think (as the reviewer also mentions) that the GTS justifies it’s £10k premium over the T.

And if the GTS pack is essential on the GTS, why isn’t the similarly priced Carrera T pack not essential on the T?

I’d personally add rear wheel steering to both cars and that would be it.
Fair point re the packs. I was merely suggesting that just because someone can afford a T does nt necessarily mean they have another 12%/£10k to step up to the GTS.

Valid comparison I suppose - as are the comparisons to the base Carrera and the S.

to be told 20 kg signifies a lightweight model is laughable my old 996 gt3 club sport was lightweight and brilliant to drive too many variants of the 991on offer now and i'm a fan of the 911,must be really complicating for new customers to 991 to choose a variant ,your starting to loose the plot.

the car evo reviewed was quoted by porsche as being just 5kg lighter because it had pcm etc spec'd
they couldn't notice the different gearing, the weight saving or the thinner window glass
truly a gimmick of a special edition car

laugh

I think it was more the fact that you had to try and sift through the floaty nonsense to try and actually get the facts you wanted. Which didn't happen.

But seemingly both yours and the editors vocabulary are very similar in terms of strength, variance and eloquence. Well done to you sir, ten man points. smile

Not much quicker than a Golf R
Well to be fair, a base carrera with PDK can do 0-60mph in 3.4second, 1/4 mile in 11.9.
A Golf R with DSG will do 4.5, and 13.1.

Around the track it’s no contest. It’s plenty fast for a sports car. But a Cayman GTS will probably beat it in most categories and cost much less and still carry the badge

This is pretty much the point I made to a mate of mine. 991 is in its final year of production and they have body shells and base Carrera engines to use up. I specced a Carrera T but with PCCBs and a few options, realised I was in S money and not far off GTS money.

I'd really love to see a modern Carrera Club Sport but this is not it.
