E63/S6X/CLS63 yeah I guess, dunno about G63/GL63, never took interest in them. Soon as I see a YouTube vlogger with one of them in their thumbnail I avoid and I've never heard one in person so...
Not sure what the power has to do with it but I've been in an E63 and it's much more muted than the C63 so I'd think the same would apply for the S and CLS. Talking about the 6.2 V8 by the way.DanielSan said:
Corvette at Le Mans going along the pit straight with the bonus of the echo bouncing back from the pit buildings and the grandstands. There is no finer petrol head scenario for the ears than that one. Ever.
......you've obviously never stood next to a pair of vintage blown Chrysler 92's or Donovon 417's running 100% nitro with flames out the zoomies as they make a 1/4 mile pass.speedtwelve said:
I miss my TVR & Monaro... I loved that proper transatlantic unevenly-spaced firing order racket.
Supercharged Monaro off the lights. Starts at 0.25.

McLaren M6B Can-Am onboard. He doesn't start properly gunning it until 1.27.

You’re mistaking volume for sound, easy mistake to make. dimots said:
Well, I don’t know why...but I agree the 6.2 sounds way better than the 5.5 or 4.0...not necessarily a better engine but definitely more raw and much louder
I would guess the effect you describe is down to exhaust and sound proofing differences. Not sure though.
I do. No turbosI would guess the effect you describe is down to exhaust and sound proofing differences. Not sure though.

Surely it is the exhaust not the actual sound of the engine that gives it that growl?
There is two parts to this, the engine produces the primary noise as a by product of combustion, the exhaust silencing has an effect on the volume levels. A flat plane crank V8 sounds different because the power pulses are at 90 degrees to each other whereas a cross plane crank has power pulses at 90 and 180 degrees giving the distinctive rumble. However an exhaust can be manipulated in the size of the pipes and the configuration of the manifolds can change the tone.
My old 928 cat delete with emptied silencers sounded immense at full chat
