RE: TVR Griffith testing ramps up (a bit)
Discussion
It sounds alright because it's a V8, and yes it has a bit of bass to it, and obviously it's filmed by someone's nan on her ipad so won't be a great recording, but really, for all the waffle spouted about the noise, that's pretty st.
Either they know their audience very well (and that audience is exclusively 55+ year old men who have missed the whole 'Internet' thing) or they're really not doing a very good job of marketing their product.
Saw the car at the NEC Classic, it's a bit better than in pictures, but it doesn't really transform it, there's still something not quite right about it. And those wheels, obviously...
Still, glad to see TVR getting closer to giving a customer a car, fingers crossed!

I have been fortunate to have see the TVR up close and personal. It's a great design..very muscular and without simply copying TVRs of old..
It also has proper build integrity and looks and feels like a properly built as opposed to kit car.
I don’t think it’s fair to brand the comments here as hateful. I think almost everyone on PH would want to see TVR succeed, but it’s the fear that they won’t that drives many of the negative remarks. IMHO, this car would probably look a great deal better in racing colours with sponsors decals and strips and a big wing on the back. I have been fortunate to have see the TVR up close and personal. It just doesn’t work as well as most would have hoped as a stylish sports car which was a trademark of the Wheeler era cars, I truly hope they succeed, but the car is too focussed as an engineer’s car in its present form (and I’m speaking as an engineer) and needs a rapid facelift to perpetuate sales.
I saw the car in the flesh and I think it looks great as a modern tvr. Is the 90s Griffith better looking? Yes of course, but it's one of the all-time best looking roadsters.
Later TVRs' styling got very modern/futuristic so this new car is in that vein - of its time, no nostalgic styling, and frankly loads better looking (and functional) than all the cars after the Tuscan.
It's just an opinion.
I have to say I have found it shocking how little support there is for this new car on pistonheads.

The really dreadful marketing stuff is yet to come when that Shmee bloke and people like him get thier (no doubt carbon fibre tinselled) models and start parading them on YouTube. Innit.
The other thing abou the car is it's price position. Despite all the revolutionary iStream construction this is still expected to be over £90k. The early marketing for the car has prodded quite a bit at the car being a viable alternative to cars like the 911T and the R8 for £50k less money, but in my view the question is more if the car is a viable alternative to a Z06 Corvette but costing £20k more...

Err, isn't a new Z06 Corvette well over £100k in the UK?
On a separate note...
Funny how a lot of people who are old enough to have grown up during periods of high inflation at points in the 70s and 80s have forgotten that it still exists after 2008.
There's a reason it's called 'stealth inflation' - many of the sheeple haven't noticed it!On a separate note...

It's absolutely not hate. Everyone I have spoken to wants the new Griff to be awesome. The launch photos were shockingly bad as was the colour. The only half decent images I've seen photoshopped dark colours or courtesy of Shmee's video which I can only bring myself to watch with the sound off, but to be fair some decent camera angles reveal some great lines. Whilst no one wants pretentious McLaren style hype a teensy bit of professional presentation wouldn't cost anything either.unsprung said:
Making a brief stop at a petrol station -- to pick up something from the shop -- might bring a knowing smile to one's face. "Hang on a minute. I haven't lifted a pump handle in ages."
I can't imagine how sad one's life would have to be to find pleasure in something that vapid. I've been a TVR nut for ages, a 3000M was my first and in 97 I bought one of the very first Cerberas, and then bought another 4 years later. Back then, the Cerbera was like nothing else on the road, and there was hardly anything as rapid - we all remember the Top Gear video where it trounced EVERYTHING. But all I see here is another sports car - too much like everything else on the road. A new TVR must be able to smash a 911 Turbo in a straight line, be a third of the price, and be completely different in terms of style, whilst smelling of glue.
TVR clearly aren't trying to win back the hearts of people like me, they're going for the people that'd normally buy a 911. Good luck to them. I can't imagine there are many people who'll sink 90K into this. Let's hope I'm wrong.
