Hugely overpriced at £1495.

The comment "There was no place for cars that looked quick but weren't really." I can think many cars which look quick but weren't quick ie:

1.2 Corsa with bodykit
Audi's with big wheels in s line trim
BMW with M sport trim
MB with AMG trim
Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo
Some Fiesta's

I am sure there are more.

Honestly the worst made car I've ever been in. My brothers completely fell apart (inside and out) despite being fastidiously maintained. I wouldn't pay £495 for this let along £1495!

I had one brand new back in 2007. It was the special edition C2 VTS Code. Black with gorgeous tan leather heated seats made specifically for this model. Performance was disappointing for a 1.6 lump in such a small car and used to average around 35mpg. I bought it to replace my Daihatsu Sirion Rally 2, and apart from those seats, it was worse in almost every respect.

The issue with these was that they never quite lived up to the fast Saxo's, that the C2 replaced. Bigger, heavier, slower, etc.

Personally, i don't like the interior, dash-layout or the exterior looks. It's a no from me, but i bet it's not too bad to drive for a warm hatch.

i'm surprised it got 2 pages before someone said this - i totally agree. The saxo was a pretty good car (VTR better than VTS in my view) but the C2 was just st by comparison.

Yeah, same here, if i'm honest. I was never a huge fan of the Saxo's either but i definitely saw their appeal and why they were so popular.

There are loads of other similar cars out there that i would pick in a heartbeat, over one of these.

Always liked the GT version in Red with White Alloys, reminded me of the Ignis. The VTS version i was never blown away by. i think because you could have had the Swift Sport or the Fiesta ST and probably a few others in that segment, which are better Hot Hatches.

the 1.6 16v engine was never a patch on the 8v, weirdly. Just really ponderous off the line and needed the nuts revving off it before it got vaguely fun. Not very well suited to a hot hatch at all; whereas the 8v was fizzy with a great throttle response and consequently didn't feel any slower. Faster if anything. The saxo had ste brakes (in classic small citroen style) but was light and chuckable. The C2 is heavy, full of kit, just safe and boring by comparison. The 16v engine in that i shudder to think how st that would be.

Drove a VTR version of this with a DSG type gearbox a few years ago. It was the most hilarious gearbox I've ever used. I'm not sure if this one was broken but there was a gap of 2-3 seconds between flicking the paddle and the car actually changing gear.
You had a good one laugh

They weighed about a 100 kg more than the Saxo with basically the same power - 2 changes to 60 and the benchmark run in 8.6 doesn't look so hot
Still only a couple of secs behind the Saxo VTS to 100 and matches it on top speed at 123 - same as a 1.9 205

I had a Saxo VTS from new and did try one of these but it did feel a bit tardier so went for a Cooper as replacement

Had a C2 Code (VTS with added leather seats) as my second car following a 106 1.1.

The seats were probably the best thing about it, comfortable and heated, but also so slippery you couldn't corner without bracing against the door or transmission tunnel.

Contrary to this article, the insurance was great value and mine got just under 40mpg on a 20 mile spirited country commute.

The lack of power was it's biggest downfall, with 125bhp and basically 1000kg weight I thought it would be better. Needed to wring every cog dry to make any progress at all. I foolishly took on a Renaultsport clio (172/182) and it obliterated the C2 with ease.

Oh and the electrics were st, meaning the car would alarm every time you got in without using the button on the fob.

I was pleased to read the reference to a AX GT and Peugeot 106 GTI. Two of my favourite cars from years gone by!

Such a disappointment after the Saxo VTS, but slightly less likely to kill you in the event of an accident, I suppose.
